Description
My teaching philosophy is mainly focused on including the students and families into the learning
environment. I want the learning environment to be comfortable and an easy space to learn in. I also
want my students to feel supported and safe. I want to teach younger special education students
because I feel like I could make an impact in their lives. I am very passionate about making every
student feel included and important, which is going to be an important aspect of my classroom. As a
teacher I want to make class fun but educational and catered to my students. It is very important to
me that my students want to come to my class and that they are excited to learn.I have also
promised myself that if I ever lose my spark and passion for teaching that I will stop teaching
because if I do not want to be there then my students will not want to be there either.

Project medium (multimedia)

I plan to use an essay with visuals to portray my teaching philosophy and describe my future
classroom class day. I want to have a technology sketch of the layout out my future classroom. I
want then use the sketch to write a descriptive essay of why I placed specific things in specific
places. I plan to just use the internet to bring out the creative teacher side in me to bring my
educational future to life. My plan is to use the many features of google docs to not only write about
but create where I see my teaching taking me within the next 10 years of my profession.

Potential Benefits of multimedia

I believe that writing and visualizing my teaching philosophy through Google Docs is beneficial
because it allows for the person viewing it to get the overall feeling of the classroom and how I plan
to run it. It allows the audience to be able to put themselves in my classroom through words. I was
never able to read something and visualize it without an image so I decided this is the best way to
get my intentions across. I also believe the layout of one’s classroom says a lot about how they plan
to teach in their classrooms. I feel this is the best way to show myself and who I am as a teacher.
Potential challenges of multimedia

The challenges of my multimedia project idea is that it may not read the way I want. I am using an
online drawing/floor plan of what my future classroom will look like, but it will be harder to imagine it
from just an outline. I am also writing a descriptive essay of how I plan to run my classroom and why
I chose to set up my classroom in that specific way. Not everyone enjoys reading an essay so this
form of multimedia could lose people’s interest in my specific project. Another thing about descriptive
essays is that not everyone can read an essay and visualize what the writer is describing no matter
how detailed they are. I believe the essay is more of a risk than the digital floor plan because more
people prefer visuals rather than reading a bunch of words.
Draft / Completed Project outline (or storyboard)

- Create a detailed floor plan of my future classroom

- Including the floor and the walls
- My classroom will be untraditional with accents of traditional classroom
- Then I am writing an essay describing why I chose an untraditional classroom and why I
organized my classroom the way I did.
- The essay will also contain the type of teacher I plan to be towards my students
- How I will run my classroom and break curriculum with still staying within school rules

Artist statement

In ten years I see myself teaching special education for younger children. I want
to create a safe and calming space for my students who are sometimes already
overwhelmed by nature. I am also very passionate about bridging the gap between
accelerated students, general education students, and special education students. One
of my biggest goals for my career is to make my all my students feel accepted into
every situation. Whether I do this by just creating open discussions in class, including
parents into the learning process, or even just spreading awareness. My teaching
philosophy is very focused around mending the learning gaps and curves facing many
kids. These problems are only getting worse , so in 10 years I hope that I can help
implement change. That is one of the main reasons I want to teach birth the third grade
is because the younger you introduce certain behaviors the more likely they will stick
with them. The later you start teaching kids that everyone is equal the more room you
leave for surrounding environments to sway them to believe otherwise. One important
part of my teaching philosophy is how I want my classroom to be set up and run, which
is why I wanted to use this project to emphasize it. I want a classroom that has
alternative seating, alternative learning, and an alternative way at going about
education. I want my students to feel comfortable with coming to talk to me, to want to
come to school everyday, and to be excited about what they are learning. I believe that
no matter what age you are teaching it is important to know your students and how they
learn. In ten years I see myself having to constantly adapt my teaching as the world
around us changes. Most importantly technology advances are quickly changing jobs
and the educational field. Therefore in ten years as much as I do not want to have
technology be an important part of my classroom I know it will be present inorder for me
to properly prepare my students for the things to come beyond my class.
