RACHEL-Pi Kolibri

This image is based on Raspbian Buster Lite from 07-10-2019 which brings support for the new
Raspberry Pi 4B. It includes Kiwix for Wikipedia and Kolibri

Getting Started

1. Extract the image and flash it to your storage device. You can follow the tutorial included

called “Flashing Your Device” for detailed instructions

2. Place the storage device in your Raspberry Pi and turn it on

3. Connect to the RACHEL-Pi wireless network with another device

4. Browse to http://www.rachel.pi/ or http://10.10.10.10/

• For instructions on installing modules see the “Installing Modules” tutorial

• On first boot the file system will be resized. Wait a few minutes before shutting the device
down. You can check the progress of this by checking the Hardware page in the admin
interface

Supported Modules

• KA-Lite modules are not supported in this image as Kolibri replaces KA-Lite but KAOS
modules are supported as they don’t require KA-Lite

• Kolibri channels should always be installed through Kolibri itself and not through the
RACHEL admin interface

• All Wikipedia modules are supported but require you to reboot your device after
installation for them to start working

• Moodle, Fair Shake, and Local Content are only supported on the RACHEL-Plus

• en-file_share has been included by default as it requires extra steps for installation

• en-kolibri-index is included by default as it requires extra steps for installation

Supported Hardware

• This image has been tested and is working on the Raspberry Pi 3B, 3B+, and 4B.

• The 2B model is not supported due to an issue in the latest Rasbian Buster and creating
a hotspot with the edimax USB wifi adapter. It will be supported again in the future
when this issue is fixed

• MicroSD booting is supported on all models

• USB booting is supported on the 3B with USB booting enabled and 3B+. The 4B does not
have USB booting enabled yet.

• This image is not recommended for use with the Raspberry Pi 0W as it doesn’t have the
resources to run Kolibri
