Table A-1[Molar mass(M or MW) & Gas constant, R]
Important terms in thermodynamic processes:
1. PROCESSES
• Whenever a system undergoes any change, it is said to have described a
process.
3. CYCLIC PROCESS
- a process which gives the same states/conditions after the system
undergoes a series of processes.
4. ADIABATIC PROCESS
- is one in which no heat is transferred to or from a system.
IDEAL GAS PROCESSES
• Isometric Processes; V=C
• Isobaric Processes; P=C
• Isothermal Processes; T=C
• Isentropic Processes, S=C or PV k
• PolytropicProcesses, PV n =C, where n is
any constant
ISOMETRIC PROCESS
P-V & T-S DIAGRAM
Isometric(isochoric or isovolumic) process
• Is an internally reversible constant volume
process of a working substance.
Internally reversible process – if no irreversibilities occur within the boundaries of the system
during the process.
Sample problem
1. Ten ftᶟ of air at 300 psia and 400⁰F is cooled to
140⁰F at constant volume. What are
(a) The final pressure
(b) The non-flow work
(c) The change of internal energy
(d) The transferred heat
(e) The change of enthalpy and
(f) The change of entropy?
SOLUTION
