EXPRESSION MODULE

DESCRIPTION
Without the help of our teachers, we would not be here today.
Teachers are the reason that I know our history as the human
species, they are the reason I know how to calculate the length of a
sound wave, they are the reason I learned not to shove a fork into
an electrical socket. (Trust me, it is so tempting.)
As a future educator of young minds, I truly believe it is our
duty to guide our children and help grow the future to be filled with
knowledge and wisdom. It is our responsibility to help these students
become the adults that we know will one day revolutionize the
future. We are the ones who will lay down the foundation of the next
generation. As famous human rights activist Malcom X (1964) once
stated, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow
belongs to those who prepare for it today”. It is also our duty as
human beings with the opportunity to help students where they
need it most. While educators might not ever be rich or famous, our
reward is knowing that we are shaping future into a better
tomorrow.
PROJECT MEDIUM (MULTIMEDIA)
For the medium that I have chosen, I chose art. I really can
relate to art and have been familiar with this medium for a long time
due to my family’s interest in art. Drawing or painting would be the
best for me because I am familiar with these mediums and they can
speak to people.
POTENTIAL BENEFITS OF MULTIMEDIA

I chose this media because it is something that speaks to me and

many other types of people. I love art, whether making it or viewing
it, I find enjoyment in it. I see my art one way, but other people can
take so many more meanings and inspirations from the same image.
Meaning my art could mean a lot more to others than me.
Sometimes, this can be great for artists. But other times, it may be a
double-edged sword.

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES OF MULTIMEDIA

Art has a very broad spectrum of understanding. One person may

see it one way while somebody else might see it in a whole new
light. I am going to try going for a simple approach that has a more
obvious message, rather than making an abstract piece of art. This
makes it easier for people to interpret the message I am trying to
get through with my art.

 Mixture of the two above
 Scene of teacher helping her students or reading to them

Of the options that I saw that related to my philosophy, I believe

that if I made a combination of the first two concepts, I would
have a piece that would be simplistic but holding a lot of
meaning.

Medium I will use: Posca paint pens and canvas paper.

ARTIST STATEMENT

This project while may seeming like a very simple piece of

work, shows what I want to be as an educator. The main subject of
this piece, the hand and the apple. I chose this subject to draw
because of a few main reasons. First, hands have a symbolic
meaning. The hand can symbolize guidance, assistance, assurance,
or giving. This really relates to my future as educator because this is
what I am working to become. I want to be the guide to the
students that I have the honor of one day teaching. I want to be
someone that they can turn to when they are in doubt or in need.

Second, Other than the obvious point that apples are what
students give to teachers, the apple in my art piece also hold
another meaning. Apples have many meanings in different cultures,
but the meaning I hold behind apples is that it signifies wisdom. I
hope that in my next years of school and teaching that my students,
my fellow educators, and I can gain wisdom from our actions and
the actions of others. That we can learn how to become better
versions of us who are wise and know what to do when a situation
arises.

Lastly, the words that were above the drawing have

significance to me personally. Those words are a few that I picked
from my personal philosophy. I felt those words really resonated
with me when thinking of how to summarize my philosophy. I feel as
if my painting has the power to not only give meaning to me, but
possibly other educators and future educators. This will be our path
that we are choosing to follow and a huge part of our legacy. Even a
piece of art as simple as this has the power to make a big impact on
a persons life.
