Landslides

How is produced?

It´s caused by the instability of a slope, are produced daily in the layers more surface terrain as a
consequence of heavy rainfall of seismic waves.

It occur more frequently than any other geological event. It can also be produced in all the states
and territories of United States and they can be caused by many factors like: storms, earthquakes,
fires, volcanic eruptions and the earth being modified because of human actions. They can occur
fast, often, without a warning signal. In a landslide of debris they slip down a slope, the streams of
mud and debris saturated with water are produced when the water accumulates quickly in the
land during intense rains or when the snow melts quickly which makes the land turn into a river of
sludge and waste liquids. They can flow fast and take with it all over and raze without a warning
signal. It goes several kilometers from its originate and begins to increase the size, razing trees,
stones, cars and so many things.

What is the impact?

The landslide problems can take place due to a poor land management, particularly in mountains,
canyons and coastal regions

There are 2 types of landslide

Slow landslides: Where the speed of movement is so slow that it is perceived when it has
happened many times in the same place. This type of landslides only raze with a part of topsoil, It’s
just a small piece of land.

Fast landslides: Where the speed of movement is so fast that stones, land and rubble can fall in
few minutes, It’s really hard to identify causing loss of many people.

What to do before of a landslide?

Avoid making slope cuts. Do not dig the base of steep slopes

Do not buy, rent or build in prone areas to landslides

Do not allow the use of explosives in prone areas to landslides

What to do during a landslide?

Avoid being panic

Stay away from the landslide or the places it can goes through

If scape is not possible, bend over and protect your head.

Prevention of landslides

Periodically clean sewers

Take out the garbage just the day that passes.

Floods check, adjust, change or clean the roofs, channels and gutters in your home.

Do not buy, rent or build in prone areas to landslides

Store high value objects in high places

Having safe places in case of emergency.

Consequences

Loss of human lives

Loss of materials

Damage to infrastructure works such as housing, schools, roads.

Isolation in the villages

Damming and overflow of rivers
