ABSTRACT

The research was based on the impact of training and development on the employee
performance of Meena Bazar. It was a unique work in this sector for the company. The
researcher critically evaluated the impact of training and development on employee
performance. For doing this work, the researcher tried to explore the current employee
performance situations of the organization and examined the ways in which training and
development impacts on organization employee performance through overall productivity. I
made some recommendations for the acceleration of employee performance of the
organization through training and development during the cause of this study. In collection of
primary data, a well-structured questionnaire with twenty questions distributed to forty (40)
employee of Meena Bazar. My overall findings were that, the organization has no special
plans for provision of training and development to enhance employee performance. The
organisation still takes training and development as a regular day to day job and not as a
strategic option for the company development and based on this reason, the employees were
not able to perform to full capacity. The researcher made valuable recommendations that will
propel changes and ensure enhancement of employees ‘performance in the organization
through training and development.

CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the study

The current world is called as the world of globalization which is mainly carried out by the
business sector of the world. The history says that from the very beginning of the human
civilization it is very important factor for the human society as well as the civilization is
business. With the constant growth of the human civilization, business has changed and
improved to cope with the incessant growth of the human civilization. At the primitive stage
business went through the barter process where two or more parties exchanged their products
according to their needs. But the barter system aborted to satisfy the demand of the human
society. The reason behind this failure was the inadequate features of the system.

The time when the barter system existed, business has not developed in a great range. For
removing the insufficiency of the system to satisfy the human society, more efficient business
system developed. To support the situation, perfect business system was introduced within
different forms comes to serve the human society. It proffered the developed business system
for the primitive society. It created a great opportunity to make a hyper drive towards
incredible development of the economic system as well as the business with the civilizations.
In the medieval period, the business started to take a modern form. But, in that time the
production process was manual which constrained the development of the business in an area
of restriction. At the end of the 18th century business experienced an unexpected growth
through industrial revolution in England (Ashton, 1939).

The expansion of the business enabled the competition to grow in a cutthroat range. The
product oriented business theory became useless. The reason behind it was that a lot of
products were in short supply before the early 1900s in the market. These provided the
companies opportunities to sell as much as they could produce. In this situation there were
relatively no needs to make advertising as well as marketing research. At this time the way to
make money was on the way to manufacture a great deal of goods as cheaply as possible.
Within the duration of the 1960s, major portion of companies began for adopting a marketing
orientation. The reason behind it is that a lot of companies were manufacturing the similar
types of merchandise that were the extended opportunity for the customer to make choice. It
enabled customers to pick the best one. Through branding, advertising plus initiating novel

4
plus better products, companies required to distinguish themselves from their competitors. In
this way the market oriented business theory developed (George and Wensley, 1983).

In recent years, the competition has become cutthroat. Now there are no non-copy able things
to the hand of the business entity except the human resources. It is the only place where an
organization can create the competitive advantages against the competitors. For that reason
not only to do well in the market but also to survive there is no alternative for the
organization to sharpen their human resources. When an employee with no experience comes
into an organization, he/she shows a raw nature like a piece of shapeless wood so he or she
requires to be shaped which will make the inexperienced human resource fit to contribute to
the achievement of the organizational goals and objectives. To make them as resource,
contributor and the source of competitive advantage there is no option for the organization to
train and develop them (George and Wensley, 1983).

On the other hand, the experienced employees who enter into the organization require
sharpening through different training and development programs. So, there is no alternative
for a business organization to develop the organizational human resources to survive in the
completion. It offers chances for the organization producing profit and to be market leader.
To make the human resource best within the market, there the most effective option is to
enrich the human resources of the company with efficient training programs (Bartel, 1994).
