Introduction
In the University of Southeastern Philippines, Mabini Campus all old student
from First year College Bachelor of Science in Agriculture will be undergo an Off-Semester
Class which is the Agriculture 2 that will be divided into Four Sub-class the Food Processing,
Agricultural Machinery, Horticulture and Animal Science 3. In this session we will tackled
about Animal Management and care of the animals such as in Poultry Production and Swine
Production and also some sort discussion from other Animal Management such as in Goat,
Sheep and Cattle.

For further information, The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture that major Animal
Science Program is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills in raising
animals. This program also includes topics in Animal Production in a scientifically-based and
sustainable environment. Some animal scientist study animal production for harvest. They
check meat quality or screen milk for pathogens. Advances in food safety keeps humans
healthy and increase the world’s supply of nutritious food.

Animal Scientists can protect human health. It is important for scientists to study
how diseases spread between human and animals. Scientist can also use animals as model
for humans.

Animal Science is very important that human rely on Animals for food, fiber,
labor, and companionship. Animal Scientists help put food on our tables. Animal Scientists
work with farmers to improve animal breeding, diseases and nutrition. When animal grow well
and stay healthy, farmers can produce more meat, milk, or eggs for our consumption.

Animal Scientist also keep our pets healthy. They tackle issues like pet obesity and breeding.
And zoos rely on Animal scientists to establish breeding programs, nutrition program and
help preserve exotic wildlife.

As an Aspiring Animal Scientist, we must learn how to manage animals to have

a good production that would help us produce enough food for consumption. And also, to
maintain the production of each animals in a way that we could still management to make
available animal breeds for the next generation.
First day Session June 25, 2019

In the first session of the class we have done a short review on the recent topic from the
Animal Science 2 Poultry and Swine Production Management. And some exciting activity
being played like “Pinoy Henyo” that was related to the subject animal Science.

Second day Session June 26, 2019

On the Second day, we been to a Hen House (Poultry) to feed the Layers. Poultry Farming
is the process of raising domesticated birds such as chickens for the purpose of farming meat
or eggs for food. Feeding the layers with enough and accurate time would help them to
improve their capacity to produce more eggs to lay.
On the same day in afternoon, we harvested all eggs being lay by the chickens and Grading
each egg according to its size either piwi, small, medium, large, extra-large or Jumbo that will
be sell in the market with different prices.

After that moment we visited our brooding area to vaccinate our brooder with B1 vaccine to
protect them from New Castle Disease. Through Intraocular (entrance in the eye) to help the
brooder resist their immune system to any disease particularly in the above mention disease.
Aside of intraocular there is still some way of vaccinating such as in Intracloacal (through
cloaca), Nasal (through nose), Oral (through mouth). This can be use depend on your
comfortability in performing vaccination.
Swine Production is the raising and breeding of domestics’ pig as livestock, and is a branch
of animal husbandry. Pigs are farmed principally for food. Swine Production is an important
industry and is considered as one of the most popular aa and profitable business enterprises
in the field of animal production. Some of factors that may attribute to the growing popularity
and interest in swine raising; pigs are prolific, the demand for pork is high hence it is
considered as one of the most favorite meat of most Filipinos, it is also adopted to diversified
farming, pork unlike other meats can be cured as ham.

Pigs also need to have enough food to each enables for them to grow fast and enough
nutrients to be gain to improve its production. As what we have discussed during our session
in the UseP farm (piggery) each of the pigs will be feed twice a day containing 2kls per pig.
They have the weaning area and the farrowing area where all sow is separated respectively
on their different status. At that time, the calving piglets were vaccinated with Iron Dextran
200 mg done after day 3 and day 14. We also done the Teeth clipping and tail ducking for
the purpose of avoiding themselves to hurt with their teeth as well as the other piglets within
one pen. It also promotes to keep the cleanliness of the surrounding to protect them from
causing any diseases that may carried by their tails.

Third day Session June 27, 2019

At early in the morning 7:00 am we been to the piggery to prepare the slaughter house
cleaned all the surroundings even the utensils that will be used for slaughtering. We weighed
the cull pig with 135kls. After weighing it we moved the pig to the slaughter house preparing
the boiled water to be use for.

While moving to the slaughter house with the pig in the cage everything is ready for it. As we
reached, one man performed the Bleeding. Bleeding is the way of cutting the airway of the
pig and removing blood inside of it. Second, we it is done it will be transfer to the plain table
where will be perform the scolding. Scolding is called in removing the hair of the animal,
followed by the Evisceration it is the moment when you are removing internal parts of the
animals and lastly is the Fabrication in which meat will be chopped.

After chopping the meat, it was weighed into 1kl- 2kls to sell in the market. Most of the buyer
of meat are the UseP staff and workers.

Fourth day Session June 28, 2019

In this day, we performed the Splays making it is a rope used to restrain an animal. There
are different way of splaying depending on your desired and purpose.
Fifth day session June 29, 2019

In Saturday morning we have collected some of the Roughages to be used for feeding
ruminants. But first after collecting it undergo shredding in the used of (shredder Machine)
some of the roughages being collected are the Ipil-Ipil residue, Para grass and Napier grass.

After shredding all the roughages it is ready for feeding ruminants but to make it for attractive
to them it was mixed with hammered corn and molasses the purpose is to increase their
