Introduction

In today’s era, it is rare that people see students of

different schools getting fond of the menus that are offered in
the school canteen. Often times, students observe the same dishes;
these are also the times that they would prefer to eat on fast
food chains, or fancy food stalls. It is true that eating junk
foods are not completely considered healthy, junk foods doesn’t
balance the proper nutrition needed for the body and mind to
function well. But raw vegetables and fruits doesn’t seem to
attractive as well.

Promoting healthy lifestyle by conjoining ice candies

flavored by crushed vegetables and peanuts mixed with dried fruits.
These products aim not only to look delicious, but to be beneficial
also.

In our products, we mainly used peanuts, scientifically known

as arachis hypogea, for the reason of its nutritional effect to
our body. Peanuts are excellent source of various vitamins and
minerals. Peanuts contain copper, a dietary trace mineral that is
often low in the Western diet, copper deficiency may have adverse
effects on heart health. Also, niacin which also known as vitamin
B3, niacin has various important functions in the body. Niacin has

been linked with reduced risk of heart disease. Peanuts are also
rich in thiamin, one of the B-vitamins, also known as vitamin B1.
It helps the body's cells convert carbs into energy, and is
essential for the function of the heart, muscles, and nervous
system.

Peanuts are added with dried fruits such as dried mangoes.

Dried mangoes according to the website “nuts.com”, are “high in
soluble which moderates blood glucose levels and insoluble fiber
which reduces constipation, an excellent source of both types of
dietary fiber. Soluble fiber helps stabilize blood sugar levels,
increases nutrient absorption, and may reduce LDL (low-density
lipoprotein) “bad” cholesterol levels. Insoluble fiber promotes a
healthy digestive system and makes for a satisfying snack.”

Dried bananas are also within the mixture. Bananas are among
the world’s most popular fruits. Bananas contain a fair amount
of fiber, as well as several antioxidants. Each banana has only
about 105 calories and consists almost exclusively of water and
carbs. Bananas hold very little protein and almost no fat.

Lastly, dried pineapples are mixed with peanuts, it is rich

in Vitamin C. Although dried pineapple offers some nutrient
benefits, the cost is a large amount of sugar and calories. A 3-
ounce serving of dried pineapple provides about 50 percent of
the vitamin C you need each day, while the same amount of fresh
raw pineapple gives you more than 100 percent.

Meanwhile, ice candies are known to be a refreshing treat

specially during summer. Ice candies are ordinary in terms of
having crushed ice, and condensed milk which is known to be rich
in calcium that strengthen the bones but with a twist of vegetable
and fruits flavors, it will be healthier.

On the part of the ice candies, we are going to offer

different flavors squeezed from vegetables and fruits such as
carrots. Carrots are known for health benefits that includes
supporting healthy eyes, a good source of antioxidants, supporting
healthy heart, supporting health teeth and gums, treating wounds,
improving brain health and cognitive functions.

Also includes blended horseradish leaves which helps boosting

the immune system, preventing cancer, support weight loss, help
curb high blood pressure, and support digestion.

The ice candy flavors also includes chili pepper which

benefits in improving cognitive function, contribute to red blood
cell formation, and acts as natural pain reliever, clears nasal
congestion, soothe intestinal diseases and disorders, boost
immunity and maintaining healthy eyes.

Corn is also added as one of the ice candy flavor for it is

a good source of antioxidant carotenoids, such

as lutein and zeaxanthin, yellow (or colored) corn may promote eye
health. It is also a rich source of many vitamins and minerals.

Squash is also considered as one of the flavors. Squashes are

high in vitamins A, B6 and C, folate, magnesium, fiber, phosphorus
and potassium. Squash helps to boost bone strength, and helps the
body’s ability to process fats and carbohydrates.

To sum up the ice candies, we will then add to the flavors,

powdered chocolate known as Milo which is a good source of
calcium for strong teeth and bones, iron to carry oxygen to the
body's cells, vitamin A for healthy eye sight and vitamins B1 and
B2 to help release energy from foods.

And lastly, crushed graham crackers are added in ice candies

as a combination with mangoes. In which grahams are filled
with nutrients, made with super food and whole food, high
in protein, healthy carbs, fats, and fiber, which helps build lean
muscle mass, boost energy and aid weight maintenance. When
combined with mangoes, it will then provide not only rich delicious
taste but also, it will help in reducing the risk of heat stroke.

Furthermore, the said flavors of ice candies are not alone,

such as with the chili pepper, we are going to add powdered milk,
for it to neutralize the spiciness, making it sweetened, but will
St. Paul University Philippines

not eliminate the chilly feeling. Milk is also proven to be rich

in calcium, and eliminates clumsiness.

On the squash, we will also pair it with crushed grahams,

this process will not only enrich the flavor, but it is proven
that squash with graham will be beneficial to the students due to
the product’s content of Vitamins B, C and E.

And the Milo flavored ice candy will contain pure green tea
extract, making it Milo Tea, a variety of today’s favorite drink,
Milk Tea. On which, Milo Tea will be cheaper in price yet maintains
the benefits to our health. Tea is known for containing
antioxidants, and helps in protecting the bones, thus we can view
that Milo Tea will assure us of a cleansed and strong body.

Finally, we, the entrepreneurs of these products have the

goal in mind to market foods that are mouth-watering and at the
same time well-balanced in terms of nutritional facts, which will
benefit most of the students, and even the school staffs. The
entrepreneurs, target consumers who sees vegetables and fruits to
be unappealing, to provide solution, we, combined it with the
preferred treats of today’s generation.
