1.

In my opinion, the term professional means someone who has the training, skills,
competency, knowledge and manner that is characteristic of a certain occupation,
which they are highly likely to participate in for financial gain.

Professionals should have their qualifications verified objectively without prejudice,

and are expected to live up to their qualifications by regularly updating and polishing
their knowledge and skills which they can share and acquire from their network of
experts(as cited in Australian Computer Society 2008).

Ultimately, the role of professionals is to maximize quality and reduce the risks
associated with their respective professions. The technological advancements of
today have created the need to raise the bar for professionalism (Parakala 2008,
p.5). This means that the professionals have to keep abreast with the changes in
order to be able to keep up to par.

2. Professional Reflective journal writing allows students or interns to assess and

evaluate anything new that they have learnt, and allows them to see the progression
of their learning, knowledge, and thought processes as they advance through their
course (Stevens & Cooper 2009, p. 3). From expressing personal feelings and their
reactions, to developing and applying their cognitive and critical thinking skills,
journaling helps students to concretely record their progress (Fenwick & Parsons
2000).

They are able to explore their interests without facing the risks like they would once
they start working. They can learn to establish their individual opinions and think
from a more matured perspective (Stevens & Cooper 2009, p. 9; Fenwick & Parsons
2000, p. 155).

Professional Reflective journal writing benefits not only interns, but also their
instructors and mentors. They are able to see where their charges have made
progress in their understanding and thought processes, and which areas need to be
improved (Mills, 2008).

3. a) Are you a morning, noon or night person?

- I am a night person. I feel more active at night, and am able to think more
clearly once the world around me settles down.

b) How long can you work intensively and still keep focused?

- It depends on the situation. I can focus at night without a problem. During the
daytime, however, I need to distract myself with music or binaural beats to
block out all the distracting sounds from outside. So, If it is the former, I can
continuously focus for 2-3 hours a stretch, but in the latter case, I need to take
breaks every now and then.

c) What sort of work do you look forward to doing?

- I look forward to working from home as a full-time writer for children and
young adults, while volunteering my free time at animal shelters and
education centres for special needs children.

d) What sort of work do you leave until the time is almost up, or worse?

- Grocery shopping and paying bills. It comes with the territory of being a severe
introvert. The bills situation is better now that there is an option for online
payment, but grocery shopping is a bit difficult to do online as I cannot find all
the groceries I usually use online.

e) How many hours can you work without a break?

- In the daytime, I can work 30 minute stretches, so I am taking a lot of breaks if

I work in the daytime. At night, I can work for 2-3 hours at a time.
f) How long does your break need to be for you to be refreshed?

- In the daytime, as I take many breaks, I usually take 4-5 minute breaks to
stretch, have a drink, or use the facilities. At night, since I work longer
stretches, I take half hour breaks, where I go for walks to decompress.

g) How many weeks can you work without a day of not working?

- Not very long. The last time I did work without any breaks in between, I only
lasted for about a month before I had to give up some work so that I can have
some time to rest.

h) How many days/weeks of not working do you need for you to be refreshed?

- I need to take a break from work every weekend, which aren’t exactly breaks,
but chore days. So, I take a couple of weeks off every 6 months for a holiday.
