Reflection Paper

In the beginning of the year of the year I was excited to know that we would be observing

at the school we would like to teach at. It inspired me to keep pushing toward my goal and got

the experience firsthand. Every little chance I had I would go down to Mr. Contreras 11 grade
th

business class at Greenville High School. The way Mr. Contreras helped his students above and

beyond it reassured me of how much I love to be a great influence in young adults' life.

The first day I arrived to Mr. Contreras class some kids were surprised to see me. I had

graduated 2 years ago and they recognized me and it hit me how fast time flies. I started to

introduce myself and it was amazing to see how the students were hooked on how life is after

high school. After my introduction, I started to help students with their business project. Students

were supposed to come up with their own business brand and logo of some sort. They had to find

out all of their spending's, selling price, salary for employees, and the cost of making their

product. One great way Mr. Contreras helped his students was how he would let them watch

episodes of the show Shark Tank. This method was very successful because they are learning

from actual professionals on how to manage a business in all of its aspects. Mr. Contreras taught

me the best way for young adults to learn and grab their attention was to interact with them, find

interesting videos, and challenge their mind in a fun way. I plan to use these techniques in my

future classroom.

Coming into this class at a point where they had to do a project was better than perfect

timing for me. This project brought the students and me together to a point where the bell would

ring for the next class period and it would surprise us because we would lose track of time. It was

astonishing to see these students so engaged and challenging their minds to create their own

business. I enjoyed sharing my ideas and experiences with the students not only for a good grade

on the project but for a prosperous life beyond high school. Even though I was a couple years

older than them I was treated with respect. For the first time ever, I was called Mr. Enriquez and

they made me feel like I was really part of the classroom.

In the short time I was observing I really learned so much about how to be a great teacher

and all the effort it takes to give kids a chance to be successful. I take this stage in life really

serious because you start making your first big decisions. You start signing up for college,

buying your first car, moving out, or even start working. The way Mr. Contreras influenced his

classroom is how I will set up my classroom in the near future.
