[insert great beginning] Horses are classified by breed and categories; and

function and performance.

To start off with, there are over 300 types of breeds. These breeds fit into

different categories including, Draft horses, light horses, Gaited horses, Warmbloods,

and ponies. Draft horses were bred to carry and pull heavy loads. They’re tall, strong

and heavy. Light horses are the opposite of their draft horse counterparts. Light horses

were bred for speed, agility, endurance and of course riding. Light horses are used for

nearly everything form of riding to riding for pleasure to racing and ranch work. Gaited

horses are light horses but have a much smoother ride. Warmbloods are a crossbreed

between the cold blood draft horse and a hot blood light horse. A pony is just a horse

that measures less than 14.2 hands or 56.8 inches.

on their farms. They are used to help move large numbers of cattle from one place to

another.” Horses are used for equine therapy as well. Anxietytreatmentexperts.com

that includes equine activities and/or an equine environment in order to promote

physical, occupational, and emotional growth in persons suffering from ADD, Anxiety,
