Foundation Vents or Sump Pump Install in New Homes

WEATHER & YOUR MAJOR

TuBinh Luong | ATMO 1010 (Severe & Hazardous Weather) | December 01, 2018
Introduction

Right now, my major is business however, I haven’t enrolled myself to a lot of

classes that satisfied my major yet. Therefore, I challenge myself to this opportunity and
create a project that is comparable to a realistic business playout. In my first year of
college, I was registered for an Intro to Business class, and I got to learn the basic of how
business work and what they do. I later found myself to be familiar with the concepts of
business and wanting to create my own business plan.
Which leads me to what I am about to proceed in this assignment. I want to go
ahead and create a business plan for all the meteorology topics that I’ve conduct
throughout the semester. In this case, I must tide it to my major, which can be tricky in
the meantime. Now when talking business there are a lot of businesses that are out there
like; managing, owning a business, or accounting. None of these is what I am interested in
but because I must study all the aspect of my major, it fair enough to say.
In my case, my major in business would be a realtor. Not a lot of background
information conducting to a realtor so far, but I know that I want to buy and sell a house
is my key aspect of the business.
I am wanting to create a business plan of what it would be like to install
foundation vents or a sump pump in the basement to all the new build houses. The reason
why I picked this specified matter is that I really do believe that flooding is a less worried
matter, and I see for myself and have experience flooding throughout my life. Not any
crazy flooding that is dragging the house away, but very little matter of flooding I see
happening down at the basement which is where they all start.

What are foundation vents and sump pump?

- Foundation vents are a form of “wet flood-proofing,” that allow flood water to flow
through your home, rather than pool around it. This can provide an outlet for flood water
and relieves the significant pressure flood water, that can put on walls and basement
windows.

- Sump pumps are frequently used to pump water out of basements where flooding
happens regularly. The sump pumps are usually recommended with a battery backup so
that you can still use it when the power goes out.

Why it so important?

Flooding is an important matter and If your basement always seems damp or your
basement floods when it rains (or your main floor, if you don’t have a basement), it is
likely due to one of three main problems: leaky plumbing, leaky windows or a poorly
insulated foundation.
Excessive rain, poor yard drainage or sewer backups can contribute to floods if
your foundation isn’t insulated enough. This is the most common cause of basement
flooding.
Therefore, I believe it important to have all the installment done in a new home
because we are now paying double the prices of what it uses to be. So why take out the
most important and needed factor in a home. Without the help of a foundation vent or a
sump pump, there would just be so many troubles that can result in a flood that can cause
more damage to the home throughout the year. Just the cost of damage to build-up more
then what needs to be installed inside a home.

Installation

The installation of a sump pump is very easy to process. A worker can install it for
you or even yourself can. It not a long process and it just a matter of minutes if you can
pinpoint your area of leakage to install. Here’s a visual od what a self-process would look
like if the home has not been pre-install.

Overall, I would say that either way it goes. I feel that foundation vents and sump
pump installation to a home is a must! Because one thing that is less talked about are
some of the limited contacts with flood water. Flood water has a high level of raw sewage
or other hazardous substances. The early symptoms from exposure to contaminated flood
water may include upset stomach, intestinal problems, headache, and other flu-like
discomforts. So, it best to think of a smarter way to renew the home and basement living
to a safer and healthier environment.
