The allure of computer technology struck me since my childhood.

I always wanted to know about the

innovation and technology behind the portentous electronic devices and other fast computing devices
that ease one’s day-to-day activities. This made me opt Computer Science and Engineering as my
undergraduate major, to be the part of future innovations in the fast-paced computing world, which I
believe will make a positive difference in the world. My inclination towards this field made me dream
of being a Software Professional.
With a lot of excitement and eagerness to learn, I started my undergraduate studies at S.J.B Institute of
Technology, Bengaluru, India. The carefully set curriculum helped me gain great knowledge in various
domains and technologies. I remember staying in computer labs for extended hours - coding simple to
high-level programs which are logically complex and challenging. The computer lab is where I realized
my potential skills and passion towards the software world. This inspired me to start working on projects
with my mentor’s support. My favorite subjects were Computer Graphics and Database Management.
I have worked on projects like “Data Compression through Huffmann Coding Algorithm” and
“Mirror and Lighting Effects using OpenGL”, which made me realise the vital roles of both database
efficiency and user interface for any enterprise application in the global market and also “A holistic
approach towards easing animal culture and behaviour recommendation system”, which is an e-
commerce platform for buyers and sellers of pets & pet accessories.

I was enthusiastic to learn more than what was taught in college - I attended a 1-day workshop on
“Fundamentals of Programming in Python”, a 2-day Workshop on “Ethical Hacking”, a 7-day
certification program on “Java SE7 programming” by Oracle, a 1-day workshop on “Skill
Development”. I attended the “TECHVISTA 10” conducted by Microsoft India, which improved my
technical know-how to a great extent. I was an integral part of organising the Computer Science and
Engineering (CSE) Department Fest at college and was solely in-charge of organizing an entire event.
I’ve attended hackathons, technical college fests and various technical meetups, one of which got me
intrigued about Big Data related technology and how it helps petabytes of data all over the world to be
stored, processed and accessed in as less time as a few milliseconds. This inspired me to work on
something related to Big Data for my final year project - An Incremental and Distributed Inference
Method for Large-Scale Ontologies Based on Map Reduce Paradigm” using Hadoop.

The time and energy I invested through my undergraduate course in building algorithmic thinking and
design skills paid off richly when I entered professional work space as an Assistant System Engineer at
Tata Consultancy Services Ltd, India as I employ those concepts to define and work through
problems and case studies.

I worked on a project called “IT Tools and Support Maintenance” (Nov, 16 – Oct, 17) during which
I was awarded and recognized as “Star of the month”. I’ve also received a certificate of appreciation
from the project manager for my outstanding work. Another enriching project is “ViaXerox
Application Rewrite” (Nov, 17 - present). The projects involved analysis, design, customization or
enhancement of various tools, and the use of a variety of trending technologies like Java, Spring,
Hibernate and some front-end languages. I organised Xerox-FETE at my work place as part of the
cultural programme where I learnt a great deal about time management and prioritization among many
other important values and actively participated in almost all sports activities organized by TCS.

As an employee of TCS India, I take great pleasure in having been able to work in one of the top MNCs
of the country which has a diverse employee base. This can only be a stopover as there is a vast terrain
to be covered still, more knowledge and understanding to be built and deeper learning to be experienced.
One of the best parts of my career is that I got a chance to work in both development and support
projects where I’ve experienced both pre-production and post-production activities which gave me an
enormous amount of exposure and knowledge about various technologies, techniques and processes.

I work for a Non-Profit Organization called Youngistaan Foundation, where I teach underprivileged
children and participate in some awareness programs. I am an active member of a Tata Consultancy
Services (TCS) initiative called ‘Purpose of Life’, through which we help poor people in our community
and also donate clothes, food and stationary to orphanages on a quarterly basis. I enjoy playing table-
tennis and badminton regularly.

I believe pursuing a Master’s degree takes initiative, determination and commitment, all of which I have
plenty. I wish to pursue a Master’s Degree in Applied Computer Science, because it can help me
improve my career opportunities, upgrade my technical skills in a specific field and also prepare myself
to achieve my entrepreneurial goals. It will help me build an international network of professionals and
friends which will outlast the time period of the course. Finally, having done my Master’s will give me
a great sense of accomplishment.

I am keen on being a part of a reputed Master’s program in a world class setting, that will result in
refining my thinking, receiving valuable knowledge from iconic faculty and bringing new ideas to life.
I can confidently see all of this coming together by pursuing my Masters in Applied Computer
Science from a prestigious university such as Concordia University and I eagerly look forward to it.
