The tea plant is an evergreen of the Camellia family that is native to China, Tibet and northern
India. There are two main varieties. The small leaf variety, known as Camellia sinensis, thrives in the cool,
high mountain regions of central China and Japan. The broad leaf variety, known as Camellia assamica,
grows best in the moist. Tropical climates found in Northeast Indoa and the Szechuan and Yunnan
provinces of China. The plant produces dark green, shinny leaves and small, white blossoms.
According to an old Chinese saying, superior tea comes from high mountains. The altitude and
mountain mists help shield againts excess sunlight, which provides the appropriate temperature and
humidity to allow the leaves to develop slowly and remain tender. The quality and taste of a particular
tea is influenced by both the environment (soil, climate and altitude) and the tea planter (who decides,
when and how the leaf is plucked and processed).
Most tea plants have a growth phase and a dormant period, usually during the winter. The leaves
are plucked as the new tea shoots (or “flush”)emerge. In hotter climates, the plants have several flushes
and can be picked all year-round. In cooler conditions at higher elevations, there is a district harvest
season. Leaves from earlier flushes, usually in the spring, provide the finest quality teas.
There are four main types of tea: green, black, oolong and white tea. All tea comes from the same plants.
The specific variety of tea plant and the way the leaves are processed after harvest determine the type of
tea created.

My family likes spending time by the sea very much. When we had a holiday last year, we went
to a place at the seaside and borrowed a boat from one of our friends. Then we sailed and fished in the
sea all day. We also had races against other boats.
When the sea was rough, we sailed on a small lake near the sea instead. There were a lot of
sharp rocks, and the water was shallow, so we must be careful because we did not want to damage our
friend’s boat.
There were not many fish in the lake, but we caught a lot when we sailed to the sea. The fish
were not very big, but they tasted very good. We sailed to the land at lunch time, collected pieces of dry
wood and fried or grilled our fish at the beach. All of us enjoyed our meals. It was the most wonderful
day for my family.

Dear Dina,
How are you getting along? It has been quite some times since I wrote to you. I hope you and
your family are doing well. As you can see from the address above, I have moved from my
previous house. My father sold off the double storey terrace house and moved from my
previous to a double storey semi-detached house.
I like the new house. The house is so much bigger than the old house. There are more rooms and
we have bigger garden. My father said that we could have a swimming pool in the garden if we
want to.
However, my mother said she would rather have a garden complete with waterfall. According to
me, I would rather have a space for playing football or badminton. I am sure my father will listen
to my mother. Poor me!
How about visiting me and seeing our new house? I have already found a river which is good for
fishing. I think you will enjoy a weekend here. See you soon!
With love,
Budi
A library is a wonderful place for people who like to read. It provides all sorts of books. Some of them are fiction books.
Fiction books are written by imaginative writers. These kinds of books contain information about things, people or events which are
not real. There are also non-fiction books. These books contain information about things that are real. In other words, they contain
facts or true information.
To find the information and books we are looking for more quickly and easily, we should know our library well. It will be a
lot easier for us to find the books we want once we know how books are arranged in a library. Fiction books, for example, are usually
arranged in alphabetical order according to the authors’ surnames. While non-fiction books are arranged according to their call
numbers. If we still cannot find the books we are looking for, we can ask the librarian to help us.
People can also borrow books from the library and take the books home to read. In order to do so, they have to show their
library cards to the librarian. Nevertheless, there are also some books which cannot be borrowed. These books are called reference
books. Reference books include dictionaries, encyclopedias and atlases.
Nowadays, modern libraries also have computers and CD-ROMs to help us to find the information we need. Libraries are
useful places to find information indeed.
39. What is the main idea of paragraph two?
a. The books arrangement in a library
b. The function of a librarian in a library
c. How to arrange books in a library
d. How to get the information from the books more quickly and easily
40. “In other words, they contain facts or true information.” (par. 1). The word “they” refers to …
a. fiction books b. non-fiction books c. information d. imaginative writers
41. What is the subject of the text above?
a. a library c. what people can get from library
b. fiction and non-fiction books d. the books provided in a library
On Saturday, October 23rd, I went to Sarah’s birthday party. I was very excited. I
went there with George and Tina. We wore fancy dress because it was a fancy dress party.
I wore a ghost costume, Tina became Xena, the warrior princess, and George was a
vampire.
The party started at 7. First, we sang “happy birthday”. Then, Sarah blew the
candles. After that, we ate some food and drank coke.
Later on, we did some games. Everybody enjoyed them. I cheered so hard that I
nearly lost my voice. While we were playing “hide and seek”, the lights suddenly went out.
Some girls screamed because they were afraid of the dark. Fortunately, it didn’t take long.
In ten minutes, the lights went on again, and we continued the games.
Before the party was over, the MC announced the best costume of the party.
George got the first prize. He looked so happy.
Finally, my dad arrived to take me home. I was so tired, but happy.

A fawn met a little tiger and said,”What fine stripes you have!”
The little tiger said,”What fine spots you have!” Then the fawn said,”It would be a nice
thing if you and I were to live together as friends. We might then roam through the woods as we like,
and be so happy.”
“I think so,” said the tiger
The two joined hands, and went out for a long walk. It was breakfast time. Then fawn saw
some fine grass in the lawn, and said to himself,” one should first see his friend fed and then feed.”
So he turned to the tiger and said,” Will you have some of this fine grass for your breakfast?”
The tiger put his nose to the grass, but could not bring himself to feed upon it, because it
againts his nature,so he replied,”I am sorry, I can not eat it.”
Then the fawnsaid,” Allow me to go home for one moment and ask mom for somethingthat
would suit you for breakfast.”
So the fawn went home and told the hind of the happy friendship he had formed, and of all
that had happened since.
The hind replied,”Child, how lucky it is that you have come away. You must know the tiger
is the most deadly enemy we have in the woods.”
At these words the fawn drew near to his dam and trembled.
The hind said,”it is indeed lucky to get away from the wicked at the first hint.”
