Adolescence is a transitional period from childhood to adulthood which spans the ages of 12-24
years old. Children who are entering adolescence are going through many changes (physical,
intellectual and social development. It begins at puberty, which now occurs earlier, on average
than in the past. During adolescence the desire for independence and autonomy increases, and
parents usually find themselves much less thrilled with the developmental indicators of this
increasing maturity. Adolescence is the period from puberty to the stage of complete body
maturation. During this stage ,adolescence typically experience fewer physical developments and
more cognitive developments. They gain the ability to think about ideas rationally, delay
gratification, plan for the future, and development, young people also experience increased
emotional stability and independence During adolescents it is normal for young people to begin
to separate from their parents and make their own identity. In some case, this may occur without
a problem from their parents and other family members. However, this may lead to conflict in
some families as they try to keep control. In terms of safety adolescent become stronger and
more independent before they have developed good decisions and making skills. A strong need
for peer approval may tempt a young person to take part in risky behavior. The end of
adolescence is tied to social and emotional factors and can be somewhat ambiguous.
Adolescence is one of the most rapid phases of human development. Although the order of many
of the changes appears to be universal, their timing and the speed of change vary among and
even within individuals. And external factors influence these changes. Physical Development, by
age 18, both boys and girls have physically matured. Puberty is over and they’ve usually reached
their full height. Boys may continue to grow a little more facial hair and their voices may still
change a bit more, but otherwise, they’re living in adult bodies. Many teens grow more
comfortable with their bodies as they’ve had some time to adjust to the rapid changes they
experienced during the earlier teen years. Emotional Development, eighteen-year-olds are
beginning to figure out where they will fit into the adult world. It is a time for big changes that
comes with a lot of freedom and happiness, along with feelings of nostalgia and apprehension.
Most 18-year-olds are more comfortable seeking advice from older people and their parents
again. They realize that they need some guidance and help to navigate the adult world and
they’re more open to feedback than they were during their younger teen years. They have much
better control over their emotions by this age. And most 18-year-olds are equipped to deal with a
wide variety of emotions. The fear of the future—as well as the fear of failure—can still be
problems, however. Some 18-year-olds will begin to resolve these issues successfully, while
others will continue to struggle well into their adult lives. Remind your teen she doesn’t have to
have every aspect of her future career planned out. Social Development, most 18-year-olds have
had intimate relationships. They have a better understanding and awareness of their sexuality at
this age. Peer groups have less of a pull on 18-year-olds. They’re better able to evaluate their
opinions without adopting the same ideas as everyone around them. Many of them take strong

Physical Change
Their physical changes occur first, making them appear adult-like, yet they are still emotionally
immature. Aside from acne and an increase in body odor, the most prominent physical changes
that occur to adolescent are the maturing of the genital organs, or puberty. Although the timing
of puberty varies a great deal between adolescent as a rule, girls develop earlier than boys. The
onset of menstruation marks the beginning of puberty for girls. Once a girl begins menstruating
regularly, she is capable of reproduction. Other Physical changes girls go through include an
increase in body hair, the emergence of breast tissue and rapid growth. The average age for
puberty in girls is 12.5 years old. Girls who mature earlier tend to feel awkward around their less
developed friends and might feel inhibited from playing sports. In addition, they might be
mistaken for an older woman and thrust into situations to which they aren’t emotionally ready.
On the other hand, girls who mature late worry whether their body is functioning. As opposed to
girls, boys enter puberty gradually not as a result of a single event. The physical changes in boys
between the ages of 12-18 include rapid growth, an increase in body and facial hair, developing
sexual organs and undergoing voice changes. In addition as boys develop sexually they release
nocturnal emissions. The average age for boys who mature earlier are looked upon as leaders as
well as athletes, since they obtain increased muscle strength and speed of a younger age. On the
other hand boys who mature late are often teased; however, thus usually stood when they catch
Cognitive Changes
Adolescence marks the transition from the Childhood into adulthood. It is characterized by
thinking from the way of a child does to the way an adult does. There are 3 mains areas of
cognitive development that occur during adolescence. First, adolescents develop more advanced
reasoning skills, including ability to explore a full range of possibilities inherent in a situation,
think hypothetically (contrary-fact situation) and use a logical thought process. Second,
adolescent develop the ability to think abstractly , adolescent move from being concrete thinkers,
who think of things that they have direct contacts with or knowledge about, to abstract thinkers ,
who can image things not seen or experienced. This allows adolescence to have the capacity to
love, think about spiritually and participate in more advanced mathematics. Adolescents may
also experience a personal fable as a result of being able to think more abstractly. Several studies
have found that adolescents perceive more risks in certain areas than adults but that being aware
of the risks fails to stop adolescent from participating in risk taking behavior. Neuro imaging
studies demonstrate that adolescent may experience greater emotional satisfaction with risk
taking behavior. Third, the formal operational thinking characteristics of adolescence enable to
think about thinking or Meta cognitive. This characteristic allows youth to develop the capacity
to think about what they are feeling and how others perceive them
Socio emotional
During adolescence, you will notice changes in the way your child interacts with family, friends,
and peers. Every teen social and emotional development is different. Your childs unique
combination of genes , brain development , environment , experiences with family and friends,
and community and culture shape. Social changes and emotional changes show that your child is
forming an independent identity and learning to be an adult. In terms of social changes you
might notice that your teen is searching who they are and where they fit in the world. This search
can be influenced by gender, peer group, cultural background, media, school, and family
expectations. During emotional changes ( puberty) since your body undergoes many changes it is
common to feel uncomfortable about them and become overly sensitive about your physical
appearance. As a result you may feel irritated quite easily, lose your temper or feel depressed. It
will be useful to be aware of the changes in your behavior and talk about it with someone that
you're comfortable talking to. To add to the uncertainty and conflicting thought you may also
experience frequent and sometimes extreme changes in your mood for example, sometimes your
mood will swing between feelings confident and happy to feeling irritated and depressed in a
short span of time. These frequent swings in how you feel are called mood swings. They may
occur due to shifting levels of hormones in your body and other changes taking place during
puberty.
During this period, teens spend much of the day outside the home, at school or at after school
activities or jobs and with their friends. But its important to try to talk with your teen everyday to
share opinions, ideas, and information. Social language skills are huge importance to adolescent.
For instance, the ability to detect and to respond to sarcasm peer is a critical skill that teenager
with typical language development find difficult to learn. Every child and adolescent requires
good skills in speech language and communication to achieve their potential academically and
socially. Aspects of language that develop during the adolescent years are discussed in the
domains of pragmatic, syntax, and semantic selected topics include complex conversational
behavior that adolescent boys and girls employ with peers versus parents; syntactic attainments
associated with persuasive writing, one of the most difficult forms of written expression and the
the listener or reader. In terms of vocabulary and communication teens essentially communicate
as adults with increasing maturity throughout high school. They comprehend abstract and

In socio-emotional development in adolescence some of the most important changes that occur
during adolescence involve the further development of the self-concept and the development of
new attachments. Since our body undergoes many changes it is common to feel uncomfortable
about them and become overly sensitive about your physical appearance. As a result you may
feel irritated quite easily, lose your temper or feel depressed. As we have observed Veramae can

different situations.

Others present at the observation are the group members. We have observed that Veramae is
thought as a quiet, reserved and thoughtful individual she seek out interaction and conversations.
As we have observed Veramae had fully developed her physical changes, cognitive
development, socio emotional and speech and language. The emotional, social and physical
development of a child has a direct effect on their overall development and on the adult they will
become. That is why understanding of the development of a child is important to maximize their
future well being. Although we experience different difficult situations we have different way of
coping with it. And it also depends on how an adolescent cope and deal with it.
Adolescents experienced physical changes such as cognitive and socio emotional changes
