Kaylee Blossoms Hat

Knit from the yarn remaining from my daughter’s teddy bear named Ms. Kaylee Koigu, this hat (and the
bear’s name) is inspired by Kaylee of Firefly. What would Kaylee knit? I’m quite certain she would knit
this girly, frilly hat. It is knit from the top down because I made it up as I went and knew I wanted a frilly
edge somehow. The stitch patterns are Purled Wildflowers and Feathers and Fan modified to fit the
stitch count.

Size: 12 months or 18” head. Hat knit to 17” circumference.

Yarn: Koigu Kersti Merino Crepe, approximately ½ a skein. (A light worsted or DK weight.)

Needles: 4.5mm DPNs or circs

Gauge: 4.5 sts and 8 rows per inch.

Pattern Notes: Repeat stitches around. 6 repeats of each set. Don’t forget that after Rnd 1, every odd
row is knit.

BO using the following picot pattern for a subtle picot edge that complements the wavy edge and
provides enough stretch without adding additional waves:

*Cable CO 1 st (pick up a stitch between the first two sts on left needle and place on end of left needle),
knit into new st, knit into next st, pass first stitch over (standard BO), BO two more stitches (total of 4 sts
BO), slip st from right to left needle (in order to make next CO st). Repeat from *.

Close the top of hat by threading the tail through the provisional stitches. Weave in ends. Place on
baby’s head, photograph, and send to mandyz.moon(at)yahoo.ca because she would love to see the
photos.
