Objective a) read, write, and identify the place and value of each digit in a six- digit whole number, with and without models; Content
b) round whole numbers, 9,999 or less, to the nearest ten, hundred,
and thousand; and c) compare and order whole numbers, each 9,999 or less. Activity Students, as a class, would be rounding numbers to the nearest tens. The teacher should first have a lesson with the students explaining how they would round to the nearest tens. Once the teacher feels the students have a good understanding of how to round, the teacher can use this activity as a game for the students. The activity is timed so the students must answer in a timely manner. The teacher can also divide the class in teams and the team that answers the fastest and most correct can get a prize at the end. This activity should help students get familiar with rounding at a pace where they can say the correct answer fast and with ease. The activity is in flashcards as well on the Interactive Whiteboard screen so students do not need anything to write with, they can just call out the answer when their group is called upon. On each slide, one member of the group can come up to the board and press the flip button when they say their answer. If the student gets the correct answer their group gets a point. The student can get help from their group members when they are up to the board. The students also have one minute to have an answer and if they do not have an answer by the end of the minute then they will automatically get the question wrong. There are five flashcards in total so the teacher should divide the students in two or three groups, and the cards can be replayed as many times as the teacher and class would like. There is a refresh button on the bottom left of the screen to reshuffle the cards if the teacher would like to repeat the game with her students.
