I have always viewed nursing as an incredibly respectable and demanding career to pursue.
However, it was not until I was twelve years old that I truly understood what it meant to be a nurse. My
little sister was diagnosed with a rare disease, Miller-Dieker Syndrome, at birth that would limit her life to
eighteen months. Throughout those months I spent countless hours in the hospital with her where I
experienced the most compassion and love from people I had just met. These people were the nurses.
They took care of us, stayed and connected with us, and eventually mourned with us. That was when I
knew it was my calling to be this person for someone else. My heart is called to caring and healing others
the way I was cared for and eventually healed from. This is not a story I share with many people, but it is
the reason why I set my sights on becoming a compassionate, strong, but gentle nurse, there for patients
As I began my journey through nursing school, I found an even greater passion for caring for
others and learning about the hardships and rewarding aspects that nursing brings. As time continued, my
interest in critical care nursing grew stronger and I become more versatile in my ability to think critically
and care for people in high pressure, fast paced situations while ensuring safe patient-centered care. I

effective communication skills with other health care professionals and nurses, I have also gained the
Outside of nursing school, I volunteered with Riverside County Public Health in California
during the summer of 2018 and saw how many people were touched by intelligent and empathetic nurses.
I also become very involved with the Student Nurses Association on Grand Canyon University’s campus
and I become their vice president in the summer 2019. This position has, and continues to, provide me
with substantial leadership experience, and confidence in my ability to lead, along with bettering my
communication and teamwork skills. My work experience at the Antelope Reception Center has also
given me the opportunity to further my care for patients with a customer service background. These
experiences have created a foundation of my skills that can be built on and continue to grow.
Throughout my experience in nursing school I have had majority of my clinical rotations at
Honor Health facilities. I found that these facilities have shown the most care and compassion to their
patients, create a positive and healing environment, and encourage education of nursing students. I see
myself being a part of this well-working team. My goal as a nurse is to exhibit this same compassion and
My residency at Honor Health would guide me to become the nurse I want to be and help with
furthering my experience and learning. I am extremely passionate about pursuing my goals and becoming
a valuable nurse to an excellent Emergency Department. By being accepted into a Transition to Practice
Emergency Department Residency program it would help further my education and encourage me to use
my knowledge of patient-centered care and safety into practice. I can confidently say I am a qualified and
