The different factors that affects the academic performances of a student

This paper discusses the factors affecting the academic performance of a student. It
will focus on the factors that can affect the academic performance of a student. This paper
will also suggest a solution or give advice that can be done to solve the negative outcome
of the certain factors. By following the suggested solution and advices, the negative
outcome can be prevented. Upon reading this paper, the readers will now understand that
School, colleges and universities have no worth without the students. Students are
most essential asset for any educational institute. The social and economic development of
the country is directly linked with student academic performance. In today’s generation,
most of the students are so emotional and easy to give in. Students are already having a
mental breakdown just because of shallow reasons, which was one of the biggest impacts
to the academic performances of a student. The purpose of this paper is to show the factors
that is affecting a student’s academic performance. This paper will also propose a solution
on how the students can avoid themselves from being negatively affected by the certain
factors. This paper will focus on the students that are having a hard time in coping up to
their studies. It will also give the students the idea on where they must lay their
concentration on. This paper will prove that every negative result has a positive side
afterwards.
This paper’s intention is to recognize the critical factors that affects the academic
performance of the students greatly. It will concentrate exactly on the factors and its
positive and negative outcome to the students. The factors will be classified and discussed
to this paper.
There are a lot of factors that can affect the students’ academic performances in
different levels depending on the students’ capability to handle the situations. According
to Irfan Mushtaq and Shabana Nawaz Khan’s (2012), students’ performance are affected
Ragin (2019), there are 10 factors that affects the students’ academic performances.
First is the students should have physical activities. In Scott’s research, it shows
that exercises can affect the academic performance of the students. Second is the learning
facilities. The students should have equipments that they need that will allow them to get
a new idea. Third factor is the interest, according to Scott interest is important to make a
subject enjoyable. Everyone can be a better learner if they are interested to the subject.
Fourth factor is guidance, Scott said that if the students are properly helped and guided by
their parents and teachers, they will perform well in the school. Basically, they will obtain
more practical knowledge and tips from their parents and teachers that will make things
easy for them to handle. Fifth is motivation, the students’ lack of motivation is the reason
for low grades lack of motivation. Sixth factor is job, Scott said that mostly of the students
work for pocket money for daily expenses. Seventh factor is sleep, according to Scott, lack
of sleep is a big effect to health and productivity. Students that lacks in sleep usually have
can’t focus on study. Sleep is one of the important things that a person should have. Eighth
factor is communication, it is needed especially between the educator and the student to
know each other’s weak and strong point. Last is distractions, there are a lot of distractions
that a student can encounter. There mobile phones, television, social media and many more.
The students that can’t stop using their mobile phones during at night are more sleepier
during the day and class and that causes the students to be distracted.
What are the positive and negative outcomes of the factors to a student?
The given factors do not only have negative result; it also has its positive result to
the students. Also, a student can make their own decisions that they can take a lesson upon
doing it. The students, specially the high school and college students already know what
they should do and what they should not do for their own good. As for the kids, they have

its social media, that student will obviously feel sleepy the next day in class and can’t focus
to the lesson. The negative result of this is that the student won’t be able to cope up with

Peri said that sleep affects the critical thinking and learning. Lack of sleep affects the
attention and concentration of a person. But the positive result of the student’s action is
thing again that caused the low grade. Next is guidance and interest, when a student lacks
in guidance the student will most likely lose their focus to their studies. According to
Himanee Chaudhary (2018), guidance is the process in which person able to know their
ability, interest, a capacity that will help in the encounter of problems faced by them.

related to student’s interest, planning, and adjustment. The possible positive result of this

For the students, according to Joanna Hughes (2015), there are 8 ways to avoid
study distractions. First is that the student must get comfortable. Hughes said that comfort
and studying are equal because if they are comfortable they will be able to focus on their
task. Second is that the student should have silence. Having a quiet surrounding will help
the students to focus more on their work. Third is that the student must develop a routine.
The students should only set aside a time for school. The student must list down their task
and monitor the record of their progress. Making it as a habit will help the students to be
responsible and mindful to their priorities. Fourth is that the student should set goals and
targets. It is important to set their goals and target to be organized. Fifth is the student
tasks and put them where they are prepared so they take them at their very best. Sixth is
the students must avoid using electronics devices while studying. Internet is the number
one enemy of a student while studying because a minute of browsing the social media can
turn into hours. Also, study time can be completed even if it’s internet free. Seventh is that
the student should eat well. According to Hughes, eating the right foods can help not only
the students but everyone to prevent from being stressed and have the power to finish hard
periods. It is also good for the health of the person. Lastly, the student should take atleast
a short break in studying. Students should take a study break to be refreshed and to have
the concentration that they need. Also, Hughes said that according to the research, physical

There are a lot of factors that affect the academic performance of a student. That
factors do not only have a negative result but it also has its positive result. Upon reading
this paper, the readers will now understand that making the right decision is the best for
themselves. Doing the suggested solutions above, the students can prevent themselves to
be distracted in their study. This paper tackled about the factors and how it can be avoided.
This paper also proved that the parents or guardians have their parts in a student’s studies.
