Discourse Community/ Activity Theory Reflection

I feel that our assignment was very good and organized and that I definitely accomplished the
purpose for the assignment. All the criteria we needed was met and when I presented, I think I
was very clear and thorough explaining my slides.

Some things I learned were basically working as a group and how to deliver that work in a
certain time frame, also I learned how to be able to work all on the same project without actually
physically being there in person with my group. I think this will be very useful in the future
because I know in my later years, I will have more projects that I am going to be working in
groups with. It also teaches me how to time manage things, so we are able to check for any errors
ahead of time and be able to revise then turn in our project. I did work a little more on my public
speaking/ presenting which I think I did very well on. I would say that I just need to keep some
more eye contact with the audience and not read so much off of the slides.

I think that the criteria were all met for the assignment I did a great job of doing my parts of the
assignment that I was in charge of. Not only that, but the information that we needed to include
was very detailed and well put together for our character's discourse communities.

My writing process set me back a little just due to the fact I needed to read and look at different
movie clips which took some of my time away from actually writing. If I had some more
background knowledge on the Avengers movies it would have been easier to link that to our
Spider-Man character.

If I was to revise this process, I would do most of my research before I actually start writing, so
I'm not constantly having to stop and go back and forth writing things down that answer my
questions. Now beforehand I'll usually just research my questions or get more background
information in order to have that knowledge.

The most helpful thing from my readings was just how broad the variety of information was
about our character. He easily fit into many different discourse communities and not only that
but since he is such a popular character it was easy to find the information about him. Also, since
he was a movie character that helped in figuring out how he acted around these
communities giving a more specific understanding of him.

I think our group worked very well together we all were assigned a certain part of the project and
it was all put together pretty good. I would say that we did lack some communication outside of
class but when the time came for things to be done my group members did reply with their parts
and research. Overall our project was very good, and our character was very well described in his
three discourse communities.
