2. Of the five most important healthy personality characteristics in your list identify the primary healthy
personality characteristic that must be developed first, in order that the others could also be developed
after it.

OPENESS

3. Reason out and explain why chosen primary healthy personality characteristic could ensure the
development of the other healthy personality characteristics.

Openess a healthy personality demands openness and eagerness towards everything in life ; old or new.
It covers not only new new experiences, but new ideas, thougths, letting go of older conventions and
accepting the changing times. Opneness also talks about creativeness and a strong imagination that
could help developed others

4. State the relationship between primary healthy personality characteristics and the characteristic of an
ideal filipino citizens- socially concerned, productive, morally, upright and patriotic,

“Hiya” is an important idea in the Philippines. It literally translates to ‘a sense of shame. Sometimes hiya
is interpreted as ‘face’, as in ‘losing face’, but that is not the whole story. According to
laonlaan.blogspot.com: “Filipinos are very sensitive to personal affront. They try, as much as possible, to
avoid feeling “hiya”, a painful emotion or deep shame arising from a realization of having failed to live
up to the standards of Filipino society. It is a kind of anxiety, a fear of being left exposed, unprotected
and unaccepted. It is a fear of being shunned by their society, which would mean personal humiliation.

“Amor propio” is Spanish word which means self –love; a sense of self-esteem or self respect that
prevents a person from swallowing his pride. According to the Philippines Australia Business Council:
Amor propio often implies a vindictive reaction to questioning an individual’s action, integrity, or honor.
Injury is personal and does not need to be shared; it is enough to the aggrieved person that injury has
been inflicted. Amor propio is like a high tension wire, which holds an individuals self-respect and
esteem and provides protection from rebuff. Amor propio is not aroused by every insult or offensive
remark, but only by those which hit at an individual’s most highly valued attributes. If amor propio is
aroused, the impulse to hit back physically or verbally often overrides pakikisama and the desire to
avoid violence.

Pakikisama is involved in important idea in the Philippines. According to language.berkeley.edu: In its

most basic sense, ‘pakikisama’ means going along with others. Its basic etymological source is ‘sama’ (to
go with). A derived term is ‘kasama’ (companion; together with). In the social interaction context,
‘pakikisama’ means ‘getting along with others’, and ideally getting along ‘well’ with others. The first part
of the term ‘paki-’ is also significant, since it also happens to be the Tagalog affix for ‘please’. It’s as if the
individual is being requested to ‘please’ get along well one’s fellow human beings

5. trace the origin of the primary healthy personality characteristic that will enable an individual to be an
ideal filipino citizen like Dr. Jose Rizal. Get dues from the lyrics of the song “the Greatest Love All”
believe the children are our are future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone who fulfill my needs
A lonely place to be
And so I learned to depend on me.

Activity no. 2

1. list down your strength and weaknesses and explain how these developed. Do this list at
home, in the privacy of your room, or in a quote place.
Strength: creativity, versatility, flexibility, focused, taking initiative

Weaknesses: public speaking, self criticism, presentation of skills,

2. have the abovementioned list ready on the day set for this exercise on developing a positive self
concept.
Some people may work to bring you down, and make you feel like you are not good enough. Avoid
placing an emphasis on what these people have to say, and remind yourself that you can do it.
3. choose a partner you are comfortable with, somebody whom you feel could trust.
4. Separate from your other classmates and start the exercise by saying to your partner, “I chose
you as my partner because (state a reason).

Trusting someone means that I think you are reliable, I have confidence in them and you feel
safe with them physically and emotionally. Trust is something that two people in a relationship
can build together when they decide to trust each other.
5. share each other’s strength and weaknesses authentically. Be transparent and try to show your
real self to your chosen partner. Trace the roots of your strength and weaknesses. Let your partner
trace the roots of your strength and weaknesses.
His family, friends, and God.
6. after 20-30 minutes, stop your sharing. When called by your teacher, share some of your
experience during the exercise to the other members of the class. When your other classmates are
called to share their experience during the exercise, listen well.
7. draw a conclusion regarding your own experience and your classmates’ experiences write these
in the space provided.

Learners do not always relate the knowledge they possess to new tasks, despite its potential
relevance. This “disconnect” has important implications for understanding differences between
usable knowledge (which is the kind of knowledge that experts have developed) and less-
organized knowledge, which tends to remain “inert.”
8. what the importance of having a positive self-concept?

Your self-image has a strong impact on how your feel about yourself and your actions. How you react to
life around you can affect those with whom you relate. Just because one person throws some negative
comments your way doesn’t make them true. Projecting a positive self-image will make people more
likely to see you as a positive, capable person. This turn can help reinforce your own feelings that you
are a positive, capable person.

How you can see yourself varies quite differently from how others see you. You may project a sense of
bravado outwardly, projecting an image of having it all together, but inside, you may be constantly
worrying that you are going to be found out, because you don’t believe that the image you are
portraying is true. This is sometimes referred to as “imposter syndrome,” the feeling that you are not
the person you convey yourself to be.

9. Give the relationship of a positive self-concept with the characteristics of a persons with a healthy
personality and ideal Filipino citizens.

Self-concept is an individual’s belief about him/herself, including the person’s attributes and who and
what the self is . Carl Rodgers (1959) theorizes that the self-concept has three components: self-image,
self-esteem and ideal self. Self-image is affected by external forces such as parental influences, friends,
and the media, and is the view a person has of themselves . Self-Esteem is how much a person likes,
accepts, approves or values themselves and involves evaluating oneself which can result in either a
negative or positive of oneself . The ideal self refers to what you’d like to be, a person’s ideal self is not
always realistic and there can be differences between the ideal self and the actual experience this is
called incongruence (McLeod, 2008). This essay is focused on the self-esteem aspect of self-concept and
will explore how culture affects self-esteem through looking at the core concepts and theories of self-
esteem, evaluating, describing and summarizing 5 empirical articles and my personal experiences my
personal views of and on self-esteem. In this essay culture is defined as a group within society that is
characterizes by the language, beliefs, values, norms, behaviours, and even material objects that are
passed from one generation to the next .
10. How can you apply to yourself these learnings gained from this exercise?

Identify any gaps in your knowledge

Without a complete understanding of the concept or information you’re learning, transferring it to new
contexts will be more difficult. With this in mind, it’s important to identify any gaps in your knowledge
and then work on strengthening your weaker areas.

One excellent way to do this is through practice testing, as you’ll be able to see exactly what types of
questions you’re consistently getting wrong and what topics you have yet to master. Similarly, practice
tests will also show you which topics you have already mastered, which allows you to focus on the areas
that need the most work.

Exercise no.3
1. List down five values that you learned/caught from your family/parents. How were these values
transmitted to you?
Love for life Fraternity
Respect for authority Self-control of emotions
Gender identity

Now that you know why it is important to be clear about your own values and to
communicate them to your children, you may be asking how you can do that
effectively. There are four approaches that parents can use to pass on their values.
One of the ways to differentiate one from the other is to consider:
 how directly the value is transmitted.
 how involved the parent is in the transmission.
Being aware of these two dimensions can help you to best implement each of the
approaches. Each one has its place in passing on your values to your children and no
one approach used exclusively is as effective as using all in combination.

There were many Filipinos who died for our democracy, freedom, and independence. Some fought using

1. Listed below are some important traits and virtues of Dr. Jose Rizal:

 Love for god  love for education

 Love for parents  idealism
 Love for country  noble for conduct
 Love for fellowmen  self-sacrifice
 Love for the environment  self-control
 Courage  charity
 Initiative  devotion of truth
 Courtesy and politeness  honesty

cite particular occasions or events given in the book where Rizal showed, manifested or practiced
the traits and virtues listed above.
2. examine carefully Dr. Rizals important traits and virtues, compare them with your own traits and
virtues, and decide if you would like him to be your role model.
3. is it important for an individual to have a role model? Explain your answer.

Positive role models influence our actions and motivate us to strive to uncover our true potentials and
overcome our weakness. Having them pushes us to make the most of our life.

make the most of our life.

Role models are a must for self-improvement because we must have a standard to strive for or compare
ourselves with. There must be a ‘greatness’ or a ‘stardom’ (not in terms of showbiz) that we should wish
to achieve if we want to have even a mediocre amount of success in any aspect of life. Therefore, it is
important to have the right inspiration to discover who you are and do your best.

All great leaders, sportsmen and high-achievers have one thing in common — they all have positive role
models whom they strived to emulate in some way and eventually end up doing better than their role
models.

Argentinian player Lionel Messi confessed to having France legend Zinedine Zidane as his role model in
football when he was growing up, labelling him a “hero”. Now, don’t you think Messi has probably
outdone Zidane as a footballer?

And since Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg became global icons due to their phenomenal
success in the fields of technology and business, many youngsters have joined the tech bandwagon and
set up businesses by following their passion or any out-of-the-box idea that came to their heads. Some
even became dropouts like Zuckerberg to give full time to their passion, though I can’t say it’s a bright
idea.

4. what is the advantage of having Rizal as a role model/ will it increase chances of becoming an
ideal Filipino citizens and a successful professional?
We, the citizens, are the first leaders of this democratic republic country. We are the roots of our
leaders. In other words, we are the ones who choose the people who will lead our government.
Our leaders and government officials originate from our votes. Thus, for our country to improve,
progress must begin with us. We have to be responsible citizens to achieve personal and
national development. So without further ado, here are 20 things we can do to become
responsible Filipino citizens.
5.who is your personal hero? Does she or he have Rizal’s traits and virtues?

My hero is my dad. He is my superman. He is my leader. My dad is a dad who motivates me and keeps
me going, even when I want to give up. He is there for me when I don’t want to try anymore and he
always keeps me going. Of all the heroes in the world, my dad is at the top of the list.
I always think to myself, “What would I do if I didn’t have a father like him?” I think about it and then I
say, “I would be in the cracks, not doing anything because there is no one here to keep me going and to
keep me motivated.” My dad is an amazing cool person to me because he shows me that no matter
what struggles he faces in his life or what happens to him, he always gets out of them and he has me
and my mom to help him.
My dad is a hero to me because he shows me strength he explains the bad choices he has made in his
life so that I can make the good choices. If it wasn’t for my mom and Jesus, my dad wouldn’t be who he
is today. My dad is a man of honor to My Lord and Savior. He shows me that if I ever need help with a
decision, I need to either go to him or ask God for help. When my dad started working here in Greeley,
he, my mom, and I all had to make a decision to move up here. My mom and I didn’t get to see my dad a
lot in Trinidad, so that’s when my mom said we were going to move up here to be him.
