IDOL

Our country is small, but rich in culture and natural resources. Although, most
people might think that the Philippines is poor, but no. One thing that makes us poor
is the corruption that runs within the veins of our government. Once this so-called
disease infiltrate the health of our own land, everyone gets affected. It's kind of a
virus that is hard to get rid of. It creates a domino effect on almost everyone.
However, even if our country gets to be known for the corruption, us, the Filipino is
resilient and has the capacity to look at the bright side of every situation.

The movie "Idol" depicted the different life of a Filipino. There are five things
that I have learned in the movie and one is, corruption starts from within. Cheating is
cheating, it can never be justified; but the main character seems to think that what he
has done is something good. He lived up to the reasoning that what he has done was
for the sake of his peers, and family. This situation shows how Filipinos care for
others and they even risk their own integrity to save others. I think this is an irony of
life--doing wrong to make something right. Second is, the way the main character
care for his family. It is admirable how Filipinos are willing to sacrifice everything for
the sake of others. This can also be seen and had been done by our Filipino heroes
like Jose Rizal who really believed that the youth is the hope of the nation. The next
lesson is, poverty leads to the formulation of corruption. The need to survive in life
creates an impeccable justification of what people would do. Life isn't always about
money, but it seems that's what has life become because of inequality. Capitalism
ruins the peace of equality. This is why it compels me to start rethinking my
decisions in life, and to begin thinking of how I can make a difference for this
country. Despite everything, these have made me care more for my country. Fourth
is, high grades doesn't determine your bright future. Filipino students more or less
are busy passing for the semester, even if they don't learn something. They do every
possible way just to make their parents proud and to repay the love and sacrifice that
they have done. And lastly, I have learned in the movie that value of our own culture.
It is sad how filipino movies gets overlapped by foreign movie. The "Idol" is one of
the movies that needs to be attended and given appreciation. Filipino directors have
a different take with their films. They try to protray life in the real view, which is why
sometimes it is hard to accept the truth. Our culture should be saved, and valued as
much as we can offer. This why the movie had strengthen my love for my own land.

We, filipinos, are unique. The resiliency and love we have creates a different kind
of change. Though, our country reeks of corrupt government officials, the scent of
nationalism still seep through. We are sometimes like the main character. We cheat,
lie, and make bad decisions in life, though it can never be justified by the ends, the
fact that we had done it for the sake of others is still love. Our country is one of a
kind. It needs to be valued as much as the value of our natural resources and the
sense of pride of being a Filipino. We question the way our government runs our
country, but do we ever asks ourselves what we had done to make a change? I think
we should start in our own little ways so that it ripples through the tessalation of our
country's being.
