Considering the influence of the cause and effect of smart shaming in academic performance on ict
students in CMDI tagum

Smart shaming is the act wherein people were being shamed for being smart it is view where
intelligence is deemed as a negative trait it is an emerging social issue in the Philippines at this age
where people are able to access to the world Filpinos weren’t seem aware neither of smart shaming nor
anti- intellectualism Instead of accepting the knowledge that some one knows people refuse to accept
the fact and would humiliate the one who was sharing the knowledge.

The truth is most of us would deny it if anyone asked and we might now even be conscious of it but we
all do smart shaming. No matter what school we came from no matter what degree we hold and no
matter out upbringing we’re all guilty of it.

Dr. Virgilio Enriquez may shed some light into the phenomenon According to him (KAPWA)is a core
concept of Filipino social Pyschology which, for the most part is concerned with pakikipagkapwa
(treating another person as kapwa or a fellow human being) that could range from citivity

Phenomenon of anti intellectualism in the form of smart shaming in the Philippines is that 25% of the
population is below poverty line, and 54% of the population have never finished high school (2010)
From that we can imagine the environment the common Filipino has in its day to day lives it is glaringly
clear that the Philippines is lacking the proper environment to establish intellectualism to the common
folk.

Doc E’s theory explains and makes sense of a few makes sense of a few things but it really shouldn’t
hold out after more than a hundred years of independence but then again that statement would have
more bearing if education was fair game. Chances are smart shaming will remain a thing until the
playing field is a little more level but we don’t know when that will be.

The point however that we shouldn’t wait until the playing field is equal among everyone there’s
something we can do to stop this side of toxic culture and even require dependence on anyone else. The
only prerequisite is that you don’t shame anyone for their intelligence.

“Nerd,”“geek,”“know it all” These are just some of the terms that people call out who show a higher
level of intellect you’d think people would traditionally compliment them or praise them for smart brain
but no, not in 2016 smart shaming or anti –intellectualism is the act of mocking someone who is
smarter than others.

For some godforsaken reason, our society makes it seem like being smart is an embarrassing thing. Like
we need to hide our intelligence and keep our mouths shut in order to fit in and save ourselves from an
onslaught of mockery.

The even more ridiculous thing, however, is that you can’t be dumb either. If you can’t speak English
properly, you’re automatically uneducated. If you didn’t come from a top university, you have to work
harder to prove yourself. And if you ask a question that everyone in the room knows the answer to,
you’re looked at like an idiot (or you feel like one, anyway)
