Abstract
Heidegger and Meister Eckhart.
Heidegger was not only a faithful reader of the work of Eckhart, but he forged under the inspiration of
the latter the most profound determinations of the direction of his thought. The present article attempts
to examine two registers on which, from his first philosophic works of 1915 to his writings after 1950,
were played out the references to Eckhart by Heidegger : the project of a phenomenology of religion,
on one hand, and on the other hand the establishment of a new commonplace articulating « the
thought of being and the expectation of God ». At this point there appears an ambivalent relationship in
which the motives of the thought of Eckhart and his fundamental concepts have been recaptured on
the level of factitious life and the history of Being.

(Sermon 5b In hoc apparuit caritas Dei in nobis, p. 256) ; « Pourquoi dors-tu ? Pour
vivre ! Pourquoi demandes-tu biens et honneurs ? Tu le sais fort bien. Mais pourquoi
vis-tu? Pour vivre » (Sermon n° 6 îusti autem in perpétuant vivent, p. 261-262).
