Agenda
• Glass as a Material
• Glass Processing Phases
• Tips for Product Specification
• Quality from raw materials to your
building
Glass As a Material
• Glass
• Is a green material and recyclable
• Gives modern aesthetics with various
colors and reflections
• Increase natural light in building
• Light in weight
• Increases the internal space by 3-4%
Glass As a Material
• However…
• It is fragile and easy to break
• It has sharp edges and dangerous
when broken
• It may allow Ultra violet rays into
the building
• It allows noise as well
Glass Processing
• Processing Glass to overcome all drawbacks

Pre-
Printing Tempering Lamination Insulation
Processing
Glass Processing Phases
• Pre-processing (Cutting)
• Fully automated conveying system
• Multi-station for storing Jumbo sizes
(Best Optimization)
• Edge Deletion ability
• Complex Shaping
• Tolerance +/- 1mm
• Thickness from 3mm to 19mm
Glass Processing Phases
• Preprocessing (Edgework & Drilling)
• Grinding – Smoothing – Polishing
• More accurate dimension
• Safer to handle
• Allow for further processing
• Attractive appearance
• Fully automated conveying system

Glass Processing Phases
ENVIRO Spyda-Lite®

• Glass for frameless structural glazing

system (Spider system)
• Stress and Load calculations
• Various options in fixing methods
• Glass can be single or double glazed
• Also, solar control or screen printed can
be considered
Glass Processing Phases
ENVIRO Screen-Lite®
• Our decorative range:
• Silk Screen Printing
• Ceramic-enameled colors (During Tempering)
• Sandblasting
• We offer all colors (RAL) and various
shadings and transparency levels

Decoration Process Max. Size Min. Size Process Speed

Fleischle Screenprint 2400x4200 250x250 Up to 240 m2 per hour
Fratelli Sandblast 3000x2600 250x250 Up to 30 m2 per hour
Glass Processing Phases
ENVIRO Tempa-Lite®
• Done through heating glass then rapid cooling to contain the stresses inside the glass
• Able to resist external forces up to 4-5 times more than annealed glass
• Can withstand temperature difference along the glass panel up to 250 degrees
Fully • When broken, it breaks into small, not-sharp fragments
Tempered • BS EN 12150-1

• Done through heating glass then gradual cooling

• When broken, it breaks into larger pieces which can remain in its place for more security
Heat • Less sensitive to NiS inclusion than fully tempered
Strengthened • BS EN 1863
Smartglass has Glass Robots Tempering furnace with the
largest capacity in Egypt
Glass Processing Phases
ENVIRO Tempa-Lite®
• Heat Soak Test
• A test for NiS inclusion
• NiS trapped in glass can cause sudden fracture in
glass
• Breaking caused by NiS has a pattern starts with a
batterfly-like shape
• The test is destructive, designed to break any
glass at risk

Glass Processing Phases
ENVIRO Inso-Lite®
• IGU (Insulated Glass Unit) has two or more
glass panels with a sealed space in between
• It decreases the heat gain/loss through window
• It increases the sound insulation
• EDGETECH TRISEAL warm edge technology
• A warranty against premature seal failure
• U values of up to 1.0 watts/m2/Kelvin
• Reduction of Thermal Transmission Coefficient
compared to standard metal spacer

Reduced heat transmission on the edge of the IG – units

Glass Processing Phases
ENVIRO Lami-Lite®
• Two or more sheets of glass
(annealed or heat treated)
bonded together using PVB
interlayers
• Interlayer can be specified as
clear, solar control, colored, etc.
Glass Processing Phases
ENVIRO Lami-Lite®
• Process is highly controlled within
a ‘Clean Room’ environment
• Four main grades:
• Safety
• Security
• Projectile resistant
• Fire resistant
Machine Max. Size Thickness Capacity
Benteler Lami Line 2500x4800 up to 100 mm 3ply = 5.8 m2 per min
Scholz Autoclave 2500x4800 up to 100 mm 4500 Kg @ 150 Degrees C
Tips for Specification
• Skylight glass type.
• High performance glass.
• Sandblast VS acid etched effect.
• PVB Layer.
• Sound reduction .
• Silicon type.
Tips for Cost Efficiency
• Glass sheet optimization.
