Prepaid energy meter system

ABSTRACT

Prepaid Energy Meter System can improve cash flow management in energy costs, reduces
problems associated with billing consumers and reduces deployment of man power for taking
meter reading. This paper describes the design of this system that can monitor the energy used
per day. Visual Basic Programming Language via Microsoft Visual Studio is used to design and
build the graphical user interfaces (GUIs) of this system. This system allows users to use
electricity in their houses when there is a certain prepaid units in the user’s prepaid account. It
can also measures the total energy used per day and per month in Kilo-Watt-Hour reading, and
the remaining amount of prepaid units in Ringgit Malaysia. When the prepaid units are over or
reached a specific amount after consumption, the system will gives out a warning with an
audible beep sounds. Users need to purchased from official website or walk-in to the nearest
Brilliant Energy Berhad office. There are five types of reload amount which are RM 10, RM
20,RM 30, RM 40 and RM 50
Problem statement

The Energy Meter System has many limitations. There are:

 Human error while taking the energy meter readings.
 Increase manpower for meter reading in parallel with increase of new housing.
 Time and labor consuming.
 Need to pay further actions for disconnections and reconnections when therehave arrears.

Project Objectives

The objectives for the Prepaid Energy Meter System can be summarized as follows:
 To design a Prepaid Energy Meter System to control the amount of energy supply based
only on the prepaid amount.
 To provide the system which can reduce the cost and loads to set up the system using the
proposed energy solution.
 To design a payment system which solve the problems manually and also reduces the
manpower.
 To apply to get the concept of “First Pay First Serve”.
 To save time using an energy meter by only reload prepaid.

Project’s scope

In order to solve the problems stated, there have two levels required to develop the Prepaid
Energy Meter System. The levels mentioned are

Supplier
 Responsible in developing the prepaid system that changes the validity of the prepaid
number to access, which turn on the energy consumption to the consumer referring to the
top up amount.
 Responsible to monitor all the access data of every transaction.

Consumer
 Can reload the amount of the energy
 Can view the status of the transactions following the amounts.
 Can check the balance of energy consumption.
