PERUGIA – ITALY
1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
b. Condition of use
The ventilation duct use undergoes the rules regulating the complete GT system.
The design and construction allow the ventilation duct installation in the ambient as per
SOM 6661877, pt.4.
c. Workspace
The operation related to the ventilation duct will be generally performed outside the
duct itself, by means of proper lifting devices (cells, elevators, etc) in case of area where
safe supports structures are missing.
In case of activities performed inside the duct (eg. during maintenance operations) the
working area will be prepared in order to allow safety of workers and prevent damage to the
installation:
• machine shut-down,
• clean air circulating,
• explosive and or polluted atmosphere absent
• proper lightness level ensured
• provisions to prevent worker / objects fall down established (in case of operation in
position different from horizontal one)
In order to prevent all kinds of work accidents, it is mandatory to adopt the following type
of safety measures:
MOUNTING AREA
The mounting area must be surrounded and signalled with safety signs.
Crossing mounting area will be forbidden by others people, except mounting team.
The mounting area should be kept clean, not crowded with ventilation components or
other materials.
If the ventilation components are mounted at height (with possibility of falling down), must
be taken specially safety measures.
Before to start the work, the foreman of the mounting team will discuss with the site
manager to established a work plan, to avoid existence of overlapping works (with other
work teams).
If anyone of team members observe a foreign person (intruder) crossing the area, will alert
the members team with load voice to stop the work and evacuate the intruder.

LINGUA-LANG. PAGINA-SHEET
All the members team will be equipped with helmets and safety harnesses and the
foreman will decide the proper anchor points on the metallic structure.
If it is necessary (in case of existing difficult working positions), must be adopted other
safety solutions (scaffoldings, platforms, lanyards, safety nets).
MOUNTING TEAM
The members of mounting team must be proper trained about work operations and safety
measures adopted, before to start the job.
The members of mounting team must have the adequate personal protective equipment
(PPE) for entire work time.
The foreman will supervise entire activity, especially when exist mounting at height.
LIFTING DEVICES
For lifting and moving of the ventilation components, must be used lifting devices in good
conditions, with CE certifications (cranes, hoists, tackles, rigging elements).
All rigging elements (cables, chains, slings, shackles, rings, eyebolts, hooks) must be verified
every day, before to start the work.
The elements of ventilation system which are lifted and moved, must be secured against
uncontrolled movements by two ropes attached by the sides of the load.
MOUNTING ORDER
All the components of the ventilation system must be mounted according to mounting
schedule (drawing), one by one.
It is forbidden to change the mounting order.

EXHAUST
STRUCTURE
Every main component is identified by a welded label indicating the references (GE Job)
item number (referred to mechanical assembly drawing) and flow direction (when
applicable).
The typical duct is composed by a sheet metal frame (SS or CS made depending on location
according to SOM 6661877) assembled by welding on which, according to noise
calculation, noise insulation and absorption capabilities are increased by means of an
internal layer composed by insulating pillows retained by perforated or solid sheets.
Some silencer modules are provided, being the typical silencer duct completed by some
silencer panels (sheet metal frame containing insulating pillows retained by perforated
sheet lining).
The gas detector provisions, located on duct wall, are constituted by connecting flanges
(blinded for the shipment) matching the gas detectors coupling templates, and internal
supports ready to couple with the gas detectors tubes.
The cooling system is composed by pre-fabricated pipes coupling by means of welded
flanges according to mechanical assembly drawing so to undergone the outline drawing CL
path (related gaskets are also provided).
The self sustaining expansion joints are constituted by flanges connected by elastic
element according to supply specification. These elements are supplied with provisions
(yellow painted) used for handling and assembling, which will be removed once the
component fits its final location.

a. Handling – Storage
All the items are stored in wooden boxes available for handling by means of lifter and/or
cranes, respecting the indications of CG location and chains positioning, directly painted on
the boxes themselves and the lifting sketches.
The marks and the quantities contained in each box are listed in a packing list.
The goods have to be stored according to ITN 54750 prescription.
b. Unpacking
c. Installation-Commissioning
The installation is performed by following the mechanical assembly drawing and the lifting
sketches.
All the ducts have to be fitted once the gaskets are applied as indicated by the assembly
drawing.
Flow direction as indicated on the drawing has to be respected.
All the field material necessary for the operation is indicated in the mechanical assembly
drawing and provided.
Shim packs are provided in order to better achieve the alignment of CL.
Once the expansion joints are fitted, the temporary yellow painted lifting devices have to
be removed in order to let the flexible element perform.
All the tightening torques are here indicated.
To complete installation, check valves for cooling systems and anti fire dampers (not
included in the ventilation duct scope of supply) have to be installed according to
manufacturer instructions.
After cover plates removal, the gas detectors have to be installed according to the gas
detectors manufacturers indications.
Same procedure to be performed for transmitters (ports already installed on duct and
supplied with a temporary plug).
Moreover, according to the mechanical assembly drawing, the earth connection cables
have to be installed.
d. Start – up
Fans start up can be done once every previous mentioned step is done.
Start up will undergone the general rules for GT system.

4. MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTION
a. All the preventive operations are listed in the annex A, if during the service period the
disassembly of some ducts occurs, it is necessary to remove the gasket, prepare the new
one as indicated in the assembly drawing and replace before the duct new assembly.
c. For the flexible element fastening screws check the 10 % of the screws of every
expansion joint.
e. For expansion joints tighten the loose screws after verified the integrity of the welded
nut thread.
f. For gasket check the absence of surface damages on a spot of 10 % of gasket (from
external side) on 10 % of flanges and extend to 100 % in case of more than 10 % of
failures on the sample tested.
g. In case of damaged gasket replace it after a new one is prepared according to assembly
drawing.
h. For expansion joint flexible element, check the 100 % of the expansion joints external
surface and verify the absence of cuts, scrap, any surface damage and the 10 % of each
expansion joint flexible element fastening bolts (according to pt.b)
i. Replace the expansion joint in case of defect and in any case every 4 years by using
assembly drawing instructions.
j. For earth connection check the 10 % of the earth cables & terminals & connections,
check the tighten of the screws/bolts (and tighten them if loose ) and the integrity of the
cables to be replaced if cut or unprotected.
5. DECOMMISSIONING
For decommissioning refer the assembly drawing and handle by use the lifting sketch.
To evaluate environmental impact according to local laws, refer to MDR and certification
of used materials enclosed.
