Philosophy on Nursing

The most basic definition of a nurse is someone that is trained in caring for the sick or

unable; a caregiver. Nurses are educators, communicators, servants, advocators and much

more.

My philosophy is that nurses are superheroes and superheroes save lives. I have always

wanted to contribute to something bigger than myself. Therefore, I can’t think of anything

better than becoming nurse. They not only care for patients through treatments and

medications, but through emotional support, compassion, and advocation for their wellbeing.

I am passionate about nursing because I want to help others. Health is something that most

people take for granted in their day-to-day lives. Most people aren't thinking about the way

their chest expands with each breath, the way their heart beats continuously, or the way each

extremity can move until things aren't working the way that they usually are. Most people

begin to think of their health when they feel a tightness in their chest, sharp pains in their

abdomen, a rapid heart rate or a broken limb. Most people don't want to be in the hospital,

eating hospital food and laying in a hospital bed. They want to be living. I want to help people

to get back to living, but in a healthier way. I want people to enjoy everything the world offers,

beyond a hospital room. I want people to live to their fullest, beyond constant revisits to the

hospital. I want to be a nurse that educates patients on their disease management while also

addressing anticipatory and preventative care. I want patients to be able to return to their day-

to-day lives but with a better attitude towards health management.

My career focus is towards neonates and pediatrics. I believe that one's childhood is the

most important few years of a person's life. This is where people learn the most about

themselves, their values, hobbies and beliefs. That is why it’s important to care for this
population, to help them get out of the hospital and into the world. I want to educate children

on how to care for their health and to prevent problems in the future. I want children to

understand the importance of health decision making which in turn will save their life. Overall, I

want to be part of something bigger than myself and nursing certainly helps me achieve that.

Also, I would like to know that I have made a lasting positive impact on the world to help it

become a healthier place.
