How do little elephants grow up to be BIG

elephants?
The process of cell division
in multicellular animals
begins after a sperm
fertilizes an egg.
Skin cancer - the abnormal growth of
skin cells - most often develops on skin
exposed to the sun

Cell that reproduce by asexual

reproduction reproduce constantly
Animated Mitosis Cycle

• Interphase
• Prophase
• Metaphase
• Anaphase
• Telophase
• Cytokinesis
• DNA is replicated (each chromosome is now
a pair of joined, sister chromatids)
• Chromosomes appear as threadlike
chromatin during interphase

• Mitosis begins (cell begins to divide)
• Centrioles (or poles) appear and then split apart
and begin to move to opposite ends of the cell
• Nuclear membrane disappears
• Spindle fibres form between the poles

• Two new nuclei form inside newly formed
nuclear membranes
• Chromosomes appear again as chromatin
(threads rather than rods).
• Mitosis ends

• Cell membrane pinches inwards to create
two daughter cells – each with its own
nucleus with identical chromosomes.
