Jean Piaget in his theory of Cognitive Development have identified four stages, and these four stages are essential for the child’s mental development. The four stages in Piaget’s Cognitive development theory are Sensorimotor stage: ages 0-2, Preoperational stage: ages 2-7, Concrete operational stage: ages 7-11, and Formal Operational stage: ages 12 and above. His theory focuses not only on understanding how children acquire knowledge, but also on understanding the nature of intelligence. Sensorimotor stage suggest that a child learns through experiences or trial and error while preoperational stage states that this is the age where a child develops his/her language, memory, and imagination. Concrete operational stage states that in this age we expect children to be more logical and methodological in the manipulation of symbols. Formal operational states that in these ages children uses symbols to relate to abstract concepts, to be able to make hypotheses and grasp abstract concepts and relationships.
These stages by Piaget’s is useful for everyone, it’s about
recognizing the stage the child is currently in and be able to adjust to that development level. It’s very important for me because i personally will be mingling with lots of people because i love to go out and be with people by this, i can adjust the way i interact and i will be able to understand why that person is acting that way base on his/her development level. And through his theory i am able to understand also why i act the way i act for now i am in the Formal operational i am able to grasps abstract concepts like arts and the like. I am very thankful that through his theory i am able to give sense to my actions as why i did certain things. Through Jean Piaget’s Theory i am able to understand myself better, how? By making me aware of my actions and the reason to it because Eckhart Talle once said and i quote,”Awareness is the greatest agent for change”.
