STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

By Irra Joy D. Bobadilla, LPT

One of the earliest recognizable memories I had was teaching our young neighbors,

to read and write using torn papers and old pencils. Even before I learn what passion

means, teaching has always been my first love. My choice to become a teacher has not

made lightly. It has been part of my plans since my early teen years. I have chosen a

career in education because I believe that teachers individually and collectively have the

ability to not only change the world but to improve it.

The most rewarding job that I can think of is being a teacher. With more than five

years of experience in teaching English to Elementary and Secondary students, I have led

classes as large as 50 students and I have been instrumental in helping my schools

develop reading and remediation programs for their classes. My teaching experience have

provided me with the opportunity to develop relevant knowledge in classroom

management. I have also learned several skills in handling different behaviors of students

from elementary to secondary. My experience also includes organizing school activities,

tutoring and mentoring student leaders.

I worked hard not just to impart literacy skills, but also a long term passion for

reading, speaking, writing and listening to my students not just in my country but also to

other countries such as Japan.

I had always been interested in Japan ever since my teenage years. Japanese

people are known for their intelligence, politeness and wellness. In Japan the role of a

teacher is perhaps the most respected profession and I want to be part of such discipline.
I feel that working in Japan would personally suit me since I’m an independent

person and can easily adapt to new environment. When I started my first teaching job, I

had to be away from my family for a period of time and I have learned to stand on my own,

do my best in everything I do, with or without supervision. Moreover, it taught me to be

responsible for my actions.

If accepted in the programme, I would be willing to accept new ideas and welcome

new challenges. I have already planned severaI exciting opportunities for Japanese

students in order to make sure they will be interested and at the same time have fun in

learning English. I extremely feel that I would be able to integrate well in this JET

Programme as I bring with me a brave heart and a positive attitude.
