I recently completed my 5-week preceptorship of 180 hours on the Step-Down Unit at the
Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Tucson and provided care to adults in critical condition and
in need of close observation. With a 1:3 nurse/patient ratio of high acuity patients, this
preceptorship reinforced my efficiency in prioritizing and organizing patient care while
maintaining clear communication skills and a calm demeanor and attitude in times of high stress.
These abilities, I believe, are necessary for ED nursing and qualify me as an ideal candidate for
this nursing position. Although there are some differences between Step-Down, ED, and ICU
nursing, I am an adaptable and dedicated worker and confident in my abilities to contribute to the
needs of your team.
The University of Arizona’s rigorous academic program has honed my skills in critical care and
thinking, given my rotations in Intensive Care Units, the Emergency Department, and Step-
Down Unit. I am a strong, yet compassionate patient advocate, dedicated to providing high
quality patient care to facilitate optimal outcomes for my patients and families.
Sincerely,
Ella Nanci
