SUMMARY: In Search of Global Leaders

National barriers are quickly coming down, the need to find managers who can be effective
in many different settings is a critical aspect for companies to survive, their employees must have
global attitudes, this is why human resources has to be more than a department, the company should
keep getting better at capturing global markets and brains.
Now that global exposure is a decisive part of the successful global managers, companies tend to
station people abroad and have systems examining their work histories and designing their next
steps toward becoming global leaders.
Nowadays, there’s been a major turn in thinking from the last generation with social media being
an everyday practice for especially young people, they tend more into being open-minded, with the
fact that intent is less effective than practice resulted in many companies not being able to be
successful at developing global executives from within, companies now seek endlessly international
young and ambitious brains to be junior executives and encourage managers into multicultural
exposure which without a doubt is the biggest factor into creating a global culture within the
company and rise to the top.

GLOBAL MANAGER SKILLS:


The ability to successfully manage a business across borders, to be comfortable dealing with
multicultural difficulties, to be able to attract global minds and talent and have a continuous
guidance over them are some of the basic global manager’s skills.
The review made of CEOs of global organization’s knowledge made me discover a new
sight as a student soon encountering the world of employment, what they see in a global manager
isn’t what they’ve studied nor languages they’ve learned nor a lone ranger who believes the
corrosive effect of stereotypes.
A global manager is always tested at the level of their drive, initiative, cultural sensitivity, and
readiness to see the world as their oyster, expressing an interest in gaining international exposure
the opportunity to work overseas, it’s those who have a real passion and curiosity about the world
and who are very effective in different cultures and can be themselves while also showing interest
and openness, they should be a person with a great instinctive feel of his surroundings, free of
strong wrong biases, having his unique and insightful perspectives on the challenges .
On the other side, the global manager should have the willingness to accept good ideas no
matter where they come from which means having a global attitude, he should see himself as the
chief developer of talent, to be on the front lines to observe and keep a close eye on high-potential
and keep his ear to the ground, to overcome any hierarchical barriers.
The recognition and reinforcement of people’s effort from him should always be immediate and
genuine making them feel like career development might enter their world at any time, while
spending all the time needed on people issues helping them to see their own biases and providing
the company with a set of values and a culture connecting them across the company, having in mind
the fact that people want to do a good job, they simply need training.
