To Whom It May Concern:

Sydney Mank: remember that name. Better yet, remember that person. You will once you meet
her in an interview. The word that comes to mind when I think of Sydney is "smarts": nursing
smarts (critical thinking); leadership smarts (just a natural); social smarts (excellent therapeutic
communication); and energy smarts (assertive multi-tasker). So, as you can imagine, Syndey
was a joy to teach - always asking questions that kept me on my toes. Sydney has the kind of
inquiring mind.

Sydney Mank was my student during her 10 week psychiatric/mental health nursing clinical
rotation last semester. As a clinical instructor/lecturer with fifty years experience in various
psych nursing areas, I have a unique opportunity to become acquainted with my students as
individuals. Since they're learning to use their own personalities as a therapeutic tool, I try to
help them get to know themselves more in depth and as members of a team on our 3-unit
inpatient facility. During our psych rotation, they also experience working with older adults,
pediatric therapy services, and intensive adult outpatient group therapy. My goal for them is to
practice interpersonal relationship skills that can be generalized and applied to any nursing
endeavor they choose.

Sydney stands out in a very competitive class of outstanding BSN graduates. Those
scholarships she was awarded were a true investment in the future of nursing. Her focus and
enthusiasm guarantee that she will "hit the ground running." Just total up the number of clinical
hours Sydney has already banked and you'll know her return on investment to you and your
healthcare organization.

Now the usual (but true) description of the strengths and attributes that Sydney will bring to your
organization: 1) a broad and in depth nursing knowledge base; 2) highly developed
technical/technology abilities; 3) excellent verbal/written communication skills and finally; 4) an
appreciation of the value of the continued application of evidenced-based nursing practice.

Sydney has a strong sense of loyalty to her family, her friends, her community, and, lastly, her
healthcare commitments. That is why you will want to get her on board as early as possible in
her career. Even as a new grad, all these great personal qualities and skills included above will
be the foundation of her journey up the leadership ladder. With Sydney, that's full speed ahead!
You have the change to give her that opportunity. You'll never regret it.

Sincerely,

Susan Markovich, RN, MSN

Clinical Instructor
