A) Introduction

● The State of Qatar will be hosting the 2022 FIFA World

Cup Qatar in late 2022.
● Following the 2018 flooding, Ashghal Consultant (CH2M)
prepared concept designs to improve the drainage of
some critical areas under the FIFA Readiness Project (FRP).
● FRP-6 site is one of these Projects. It is located in Doha
Municipality
● The Site is a highly developed urban area with
relatively flat topography.
● Ground levels range between approximately +12m to
+23m above the Qatar National Height Datum (QNHD).

B) Design Philosophy

● Optimize the concept design and improve the drainage systems to all hotspots,
complaint locations and other known low points within the project areas.
● Design positive drainage systems with online and offline storages, including use
of existing soakaways where possible.
● Disconnect existing gully connected directly into soakaway trenches and
reconnect to existing or proposed manholes.
● Provide new gullies and gully connections where the proposed surface water
drains pass though roads without existing gullies.
● Divert the maximum possible drainage area from Immigration Underpass into the
proposed FRP-6 area surface water network.
● Divert the Immigration underpass pump station outlet into the proposed FRP-6
area surface water network.
● Divert the maximum possible drainage area from OBK Underpass into the
proposed FRP-6 area surface water network.

D) Hydraulic Modelling

● Review, check, & verify the performance

of the concept design model using
InfoWorks ICM software.
● Update & develop the preliminary
design model.
● Simulate design storm conditions
● Carry out flooding assessment
● Ensure it meets flood protection
criteria
● Provide Hydraulic Model Report

E) Preliminary Design

● Develop horizontal & vertical pipeline

alignment drawings
● Assign correct corridor using typical
road cross-sections and utility corridors
(MMUP, 2012)
● Interface with existing utilities
● Prepare standard detailed drawings
● Provide Preliminary Design Report

F) Detail Design

● Conduct detailed clash check analysis

● Update the design hydraulic model
● Ensure model meets flood protection criteria
