Break-out Title/Topic: Getting to know each other Resources Time
Bridge-in:
 What interests me most about psychology is the mental processes that
happen within every individual. It’s intriguing to me to learn about
humanity and our tendencies.
 Mostly, I am passionate about it because it makes me very self-aware
within my own behavior and the behavior of my loved ones around me
 I want to be able to aid those who struggle with their mental patterns.
 Basically, the importance of why we take Psychology is something we 2
should keep in mind throughout your journey in this program. minutes
Pre-Assessment:
 How does everyone feel about their abilities after
encountering Chapter 1 of Intro to Psychology?
 Does anyone need help with Revel? 2
 Did you do the reading? minutes
Learning Objective:
 To gather a general sense of the mentees’ mood upon
engaging with the lecture content of Chapter 1.
 To complete the assigned handout for Chapter 1. 2
 How engaged are the mentees this far? minutes
Participatory Activity:
 The mentees will be put into pairs to complete the
assigned handout.
 If given the time, I will gather the mentees to set an
academic or personal goal(s) for themselves as students. 15
 I will gather the sticky notes and keep them until the end minutes
of the semester for them to recognize the growth that will
occur in this transition.
 Second activity: what is the mood?
 I will ask the mentees to think of their past week at the
University of Windsor and set an intention for the next
week to make their academic life less stressful (e.i: weekly - Stress
planners, yoga, meditation) ball to
 After a few minutes, the mentees can search appropriate pass
images (or memes) to capture their mood for the week to around
share with the rest of the group. -

Post-Assessment:
- We will overview the perceived difficult questions from Dr.
Jackson’s assigned handout depending on mentees’ level of
understanding.
- I will make note of the content they are struggling with to
review throughout the course in order to facilitate their
understanding in the future

Summary:
- We will then reflect on the activity. The mentees will share a
positive aspect of the assignment, and a general rating of the
difficulty level.
- We will set up a group chat for communication regarding
course content and questions they have.
- I will try to cover any questions or concerns they have. 3
