INTRODUCTION

Research Questions (if research questions are not specifically mentioned, what is
the theoretical background or overarching theme): Should principals push more
toward integrating technology into their schools?

Purpose of the research: The purpose of this study is how principals view the
importance of technology and the principal’s perceptions of technology.

METHODOLOGY

What is the methodology for the research or approach used to understand the
issue? Provide information regarding the following:

Participants: A group of 310 principals from a large metropolitan area in the

southwest region of the United States responded to a cognitive interview
questionnaire that asked principals about their perceptions regarding the
importance of technology for their schools. This sample had 126 males and
184 females.

Procedures: The questionnaire was administered by graduate students in

the Educational Leadership program at a major, urban doctoral-granting
university located in the south central region of the U.S. The survey
instrument was designed specifically for this purpose and included both
qualitative and quantitative questions.

Data Collection Methods/Data Source: Questionnaire administered by

graduate students in the Educational Leadership program at a major, urban
doctoral-granting university.

Data Analysis: The analysis of the interview began with a process of data
reduction. The participants responses were read several times to become
familiar with the data. The data was then coded into meaningful categories.
Once all categories were established, another researcher independently
coded a 10% sample of responses to determine the consistency of the
coding. The inter-coder reliability results revealed a high level of agreement
(Cohen’s kappa=.94).
RESULTS

Findings or Results (or main points of the article): After the responses from the
questionnaire provided by the graduate students in the Educational Leadership
program the principals perceptions of the major function of technology was
grouped into six categories:
Communication
Instruction
Data Sharing
Resource
Administrative tasks
Student Learning

DISCUSSIONS

Conclusions/Implications (for your profession): Technology is a great resource for

students in the classrooms today. Learning should be student centered and it
empowers students. Learning should be fun and by integrating technology into
the schools makes learning fun and students would be more engaged.

REFLECTIONS

Student’s Reflections (changes to your understanding; implications for your

school/work): The principals are the leaders on the campus and are the ones who
set the tone in the schools today. Principals today should establish the goals and
vision for technology in the schools. The principals should also be engaged in PD
courses or activities that focus on integration of technology in student learning
activities. They should also provide opportunities for their teachers to gain more
knowledge about technology and how it could be incorporated in the teachers
instruction. Teachers are the most important piece to implementing technology
into the classrooms. As principals they should always look for more strategies or
ways to better their school and academics and be open minded of trying new
things.
