Go Make Music!

Designer: Noah Sharp

Technologies Used:
● Makey-Makey is a circuitry set used to connect the coding to physical mediums.
● The coding platform is Scratch, which is
● an incredibly user friendly coding site being used to set up simple codes for playing
pitches and noises.
● Name the other App: GarageBand was used to obtain quality recordings for the chords
used in the coding.

Learning Goal:MU:Pr6.1.T.Ib Demonstrate an understanding of the context of music through

prepared and improvised performances.

Assessment:I will ask the following questions via a google form survey:

Do you feel like you were able to make music without too much confusion or hassle?
If you didn’t feel this way, please elaborate on what made the experience difficult for you.
Did you understand the scale being presented to you?
Were you able to incorporate all the aspects into a fluid musical experience?
Finally, was there a particular ambient noise that you found yourself gravitating towards? If so,
why do you think that one appealed to you more than the others?

Project Overview and Rationale: There’s a particular joy in learning something on your own, it
leads to a sense of accomplishment. When the participant first engages with the controller, I will
give them the ring that acts as the perpetual ground to complete the circuit, and then allow them
2-4 minutes of exploration on their own. After this is done, I will prompt them to compose a small
work that reflects a specific feeling they get from one of the four ambient noise loops. This will
allow them to actively think about making music using a very simple and user-friendly method.
After they feel satisfied with their piece, I will ask them to either make it more basic, or more
complex, while still only having access to the two chords and the six pitches on the controller.
Finally, I will ask them how what they’ve composed reflects what the ambient noise makes them
feel. The end result is an enjoyable and introspective musical experience.

Plan for Success:

The code is set up how I want it, I just need to assemble my controller.
Tomorrow (11/20) I have my second appointment at xlabs to cut my plywood into an octagon,
get a pole cut for it to be mounted on, and build a stand for the pole to slot into.
Over break I need to buy a coil of the necessary wire for the makey makey.
I will also need to acquire an adjustable metal ring for my perpetual ground.
I will need to paint my sign green and give it borders like a stop sign and have the letters in the
correct font across the front that say GO
