From the 60 questions, only 29 questions were answered correctly by the

majority. However, most of the questions have the discriminant factor (DF) which

is the correlation between students that answer this question correctly and how

well those sudents performed on the test overall. Expressed as a decimal

between -1 and +1, a positive discriminant factor indicates that students did well

on this question did well on the overall test. A strong negative value may indicate

a poorly written question or incorrecly keyed answer which is also reflected in the

table. There were 11 questions with negative value in DF which can be reviewed

for revision.

But what can be noticed in the table, though most of the items were rejected

due to few number of students who got it correctly, the DF is in a positive value

and more than the 0.1 value. It can be inferred that some of the students did not

study their lesson. For the most rejected questions, it can be a point of reflection

to look back the at the competencies taught and review if the question matches

the competency. But this result is only for this class of D1B which I had observed

never exert effort to study and give their best during the entire semester. Only few

students were really diligent and listening to the instructions as well as in the

conduct of the lesson. Perhaps, more exercises should be given applying the

principles of purposive communication.

In terms of the content of the lesson, everything is uploaded in Canvas which

is the Learning Management System of the Institution. Exercises were given as

well as the authentic tasks to maximize the learning of the students at their own
Lyceum of the Philippines University Graduate School
pace. However, it can also be construed that the students might have a problem

in understanding the question as well as neglecting to study the basic principles

which are present in the question.

With this, revisiting the content as well as the items which are rejected for

further intensification through exercises that would show application of the

principles in purposive communication. Upon teaching this subject to this

generation, it was observed that communication skills are difficult now for the

students though they can speak because they never care about the purpose of

the communication which will make communication successful.
