Title: Urine Energy with the Use of Microbial Fuel Cell

General Objectives:

To construct a device that can generate electricity from urine with the use of microbial fuel cell
by gathering the output voltage data generated by the system with the use of Arduino voltage
data logger.

Specifically, the study aims to:

1.) Determine the significant effects of using the three types of sediments in the anode
chamber in generating electricity:
A.) Sediments from Iloilo River.

B.) Sediments from Mangrove area.

C.) Sediments from the Beach.

2.) Determine the significant effects of the three different sources of potassium as seeds in
the urine cathode chamber.
A.) Potassium Aluminum Sulfate.

B.) Potassium Permanganate.

C.) Potassium Ferricyanide.

3.) Determine if there is a significant difference between the different types of sediments in
the Anode chamber and the different sources of potassium seed in the urine cathode
chamber voltage generation.

Methods of Experimentation

Objective 1: To determine the significant effects of using the following types of sediments in

the anode chamber in generating electricity.

Procedures:

1.) Gather three different types of sediments from different sources.

2.) Separate rocks, stones and other trash on the sediments.

3.) Gather 9 Liters of human urine within 24 hours prior to experiment/ data logging.

4.) Soak cloth for 3 hours in water from the same location where sediments is took.

5.) Insert the cloth into the pipes connecting both chambers from the salt bridge.

6.) Pour 1 liter of sediments to all anode chambers.

7.) Pour 1 liter of urine gathered to all cathode chambers

8.) Connect the electrodes of the cathode and anode chamber to the Arduino to the Arduino

Data Logger.

9.) *Seed fresh human urine in the sediments in the anode chamber for every 4 hours from

the start of the experiment for the span of 24 hours

10.) Extract the data gathered from the Arduino Data Logger after 24 hours.

11.) Use the statistical tool ANOVA in SPSS to determine if there is a significant difference.

10.) Mix 2 grams of the different kinds of potassium in the designated urine cathode chamber

before starting the experiment.

11.) Seed different kinds of Potassium (2 Grams) in the designated urine cathode chambers

for every 4 hours from the start of the experiment for the span of 24 hours.

12.) Extract the data gathered from the Arduino Data Logger after 24 hours.

13.) Use the statistical tool ANOVA in SPSS to determine if there is a significant difference.

14.) Interpret the data.

Objective 3: Determine if there is a significant difference between the different

combinations of types of sediments in the Anode chamber and the different sources of

potassium seed in the urine cathode chamber in terms of voltage generation.

1.) Gather all the data from the Experiments

2.) Use the statistical tool ANOVA in SPSS to determine if there is a significant difference.

3.) Interpret the data.
