4/23/19

Materials of Instruction: Warm up Scores, baton, band, metronome, lesson plan, class roster, notes.

Lesson Sequence

1. Teacher will write on board and divide band into three groups.
- Group 1 is a Bb, Group 2 is an F, and Group 3 is an A
- The point of this is to divide the band up so each instrument is on the best tuning note for
that instrument
2. Teacher will have band play each tuning note as a group, listening for tuning and balance. The
other students will kindly give feedback on tuning in the form of using their hand as the waves
they hear in the sound.
- Teacher will point at the groups on the board to indicate which group is then playing.
3. The Teacher will then have the band pass an F around the room by sections, using hand and
verbal cues to indicate which section is next
- The band should try and hand off the F seamlessly and as in tune as possible.

Lesson Sequence

1. The teacher will start by writing a grid on the board, with SATB parts, and the scale degree they
should play on each cue by the conductor
- This is a chorale on IV-V-I
- The students should be listening for balance and tuning, as well as playing the correct notes
2. The teacher will have the students play through the chorale, and then run it again but asking
students to add dynamics and phrasing.
3. The teacher will close out the warm up with having the students start with an F on one side of
the room, and close their eyes and pass it all the way across the room until everyone is playing.
- The students should play when they hear the person next to them in tune and solid on the
note.
- Students should try to make the sound blend and as in tune as possible.
