Christmas Presents

Last year our church sent over 13 boxes of Christmas presents to some families
impacted by Hurricane Michael over in Panama City. (And when I say “boxes,” I mean
huge crate size “boxes.”) You will remember that we had reached out to the churches
in Panama City after Hurricane Michael and found that there were several families
with children that would have probably gone without Christmas presents for their kids
if it hadn’t been for the generosity of so many of you from our wonderful CCCC family.
You guys are awesome.

And then you might also remember that at the end of the summer, right before
school started back we again reached out to the Christian Church in Panama City,
who, by the way, are now back in their building for worship (PTL!). We learned that
the teachers in Bay County are not allowed this year to solicit school supplies from
parents due to the financial impact the hurricane continues to have on that entire area
of the Panhandle. From that we learned that we had an opportunity to donate school
supplies through Christian Church Panama City to Calloway Elementary School. Cal-
loway Elementary School was the most devastated school in that area taking a direct
hit from Hurricane Michael just north of Mexico Beach. Phil Carter’s wife is a second
grade teacher at Calloway Elementary (Phil is the preacher at CCPC). We brought
over 20 boxes of school supplies, and they responded with much gratitude and how
much of a blessing all those school supplies were. They literally touched dozens and
dozens of families through your generosity.

So someone here asked me back in October if we were going to have an oppor-

tunity to give Christmas presents to those same families again this year. I reached out
to the church in Panama City and learned that there was not a great need for Christ-
mas, but the Calloway Elementary School could still use more school supplies. I
asked for a list and told them we would get to work on it right after Thanksgiving.
We won’t be sending these supplies over until after the first of the year, but please find
the supply list and donation bags in the front foyer the month of December. This will
be our Christmas effort this year, so please just leave what you can donate under the
Christmas Tree in the front foyer at church. I already know the generous heart of this
church family, so I can say with great confidence in advance, “THANK YOU.”
It is already beginning to look like a great Christmas season this year.

 Christmas Thoughts
God’s Unfailing Promise
I cannot imagine how excited the Jews were when they heard that the Re-
deemer, the Savior was finally here on earth. After all, they had been waiting
their whole lives for this moment, waiting for the almighty Son of God to
come and free them from their captors.
I also cannot imagine the confusion, when 30 years later this almighty king
remained "powerless" against the ruling government, and instead of leading
a rebellion, taught peace and co-existence (Luke 20:25). Instead of praising
the Pharisees, and appointing them to high positions in His kingdom, He
condemned their actions (Matthew 3:7), and taught what real love was...
sacrifice (John 15:13).
And finally, I cannot imagine the disappointment, when this almighty King
died at the hands of the very kingdoms He was to rule over. It seemed that
after all the promises God had made to the Jewish people, that none of
them would be coming true. Then all of a sudden, 3 days later, the king that
they had killed was back! (Acts 10:40).
I think that we can learn a very valuable lesson from the Jews of Jesus'
time. The first is that we often look at the promises of God, and ask our-
selves how we would fulfill them... then we expect God to act the same way,
and often in a way that ends up praising us and not Him (just as the Phari-
sees). Even more often, when these promises are not fulfilled the way we
expect, we often start to question God, asking if He really cares about us, or
even if He is capable of keeping His promises. Just like the Jews of Jesus'
time, we end up disappointed and discouraged, before God has finished
showing us His plan (Jeremiah 29:11).
Instead of fulfilling the prophecies and expectations of the Jews of Jesus'
time, God instead freed them from a much bigger captor, their sin. Instead of
giving them a wonderful life on earth for a short time, He gave them the gift
of eternal life through His Son Jesus (John 3:16). And instead of saving a
few, God gave His Son to save the world (Colossians 3:11).
We have an amazing God, one who not only keeps His promises, but has
greater plans than we can even imagine. A God who doesn't do things our
way, but will do them the right way (1 Corinthians 13:12). A God who, no
matter the situation, you can rely on to get you through. Just like the Jews of
Jesus' time, we may not always understand what is going on, or why God
seems to be "failing" in keeping His promises, but we can know that in the
end, He will not only keep His promise, but amaze us in how He did it
(Romans 8:28).

Mission Ministry
The Shepherd’s Inn Ministries, Inc.
Starting over after 12 years is hard! We are in a
new facility and it is going pretty good. It is not a faith
based program so that’s different for us, but God is faithful
and full of Grace and Mercy! He is filling our heart!
We have a new mission under our Shepherds Inn
Ministry. It is in Uganda and we are very excited about
what God is doing there. We have asked Elisha to be
our director for Sheps Kids there. He now has 5 staff
members (they are all volunteers) and 50 children he is
teaching the Bible to; we are excited and love what is
happening there. We are their sole supporter right
now. Elisha’s sister is a teacher so she helps him. They
have classes for 2-3 hours on Sunday. They feed them,
have exercises, fun games and teaching. We have been
supporting this ministry for 1 year and three months and
God is showing such wonderful things as families learn
about God. There are 100 kids on a waiting list just
waiting for funding. We are praying God will open the
door for Elisha to come here for college. He wants to be a
preacher!! He is a precious 26 year old young man. We
have sponsored him since elementary school. His dream
has always been to go to college in America. He is ex-
tremely smart and we hope to help him attend seminary,
God willing.
As for needs, we always need funding but more
than that, we covet your prayers daily!! Satan is always
prowling around so a hedge of protection and prayers for
our lost boys is a primary need. And please pray for our
beautiful African children in Kampala Uganda Africa! We
are so proud of them.
Thank you everyone at Capital City, and if at all
possible we will see you for your Missions Week in Feb-
ruary.
