The other best alternative for the production of biofuel is to use oleaginous microorganisms. The
advantages of using oleaginous microorganisms is that it requires less land to cultivate, has short
cultivation period, has high lipid production rate and has the similar fatty acid composition of
vegetable oils. Oleaginous microorganisms from organic substances such as microalgae, yeasts and
bacteria have high capacity to accumulate high concentration of lipids in their cells. The main
products of the fatty acids produced from the oleaginous microorganisms contain 14 to 17 carbons
which is similar to the vegetable oils.
Research question:
What role does different types of organic wastes play in the
production of biodiesel.
Apparatus:
1: sterile bags
