Classroom Management 3
When we get students involved within the classroom, we give them a chance to have their
voices heard. Therefore, having the students help you create the rules/ responsibilities of the
classroom is very important. When we keep children engaged for longer periods of time, they
can start to understand the material we are teaching. We must remember that not all our students
will learn the same way and we must allow time for them to process the information we are
teaching. By getting these students actively involved during a lesson we are helping them grow
while maintaining our classroom management. We need to decide what the classroom
management style will be and stick with it. Studies show that more children will be actively
involved in a classroom if the teacher is not only respectful but also using positive reinforcement
expectations within the classroom. When the children walk into the classroom on the first day of
school, we need to explain to the students what is considered acceptable behaviors within the
classroom and the school. We also may want to talk about what we would not like to see within
the classroom/school. Something that we have seen work for all different types of learners is
some type of visual guide to show the children what we are expecting from them. A visual guide
that I have seen in several classrooms is a Green Choice and Red Choice chart. One way to do
this is have cards within the classroom each child is given a certain color to start the day (most
teachers use green) and if the child is not following the classroom rules they will have to change
the color next to their name and turn it yellow and this can go on until red and if a child gets a
red card you send a note/e-mail the families to let them know what is going on. Remember the
children can earn green back during the day. Whatever we decide to use within the classroom we

need to stick with it because when we do the exact same thing repeatedly it becomes part of the
daily routine.
There are many ways to use classroom management strategies to meet the diverse needs
of students, achieve instructional goals, and effectively involve families. To have good
classroom management we must make sure all the students understand the management
strategies. Having any type of visual aid to support learning and understanding in the classroom.
Instructional goals should be posted in the classroom during the day. We also want to make sure
that we are communicating with parents often updating them on how their child is doing and
letting them know if we have any concerns. We need to make sure we are not just reaching out to
families if their child is struggling but reach out often and build a relationship with our families
