METHOD STATEMENT OF GYPSUM PLASTER

INTRODUCTION: This method statement describes various steps to be carried out

during gypsum work .

PROCEDURE:

(A) For gypsum punning & bonding agent for RCC surface.
1: Pre plaster check
 RCC surface should be free from any dust or chemical so as to avoid and chemical
reaction on the surface.
 Minimum gap of 7days shall be maintained between completion of curing of brick
masonry and commencement of internal plaster application.
 Allow sufficient drying period ie 24hrs for bonding agent which will be used on RCC
and block work face.
 Make sure that no holes in masonry should be done for supporting scaffolding.
 Level strips of not less than 2’’&1.5m length shall be made on the walls. The distance
between level strips shall not exceed 24’’ in any direction so that their surface alignment
can be checked with the help of aluminum straight edge. The drying time of 12 hours to
be allowed between the level strips and actual plaster coat.
 Level strips shall also be checked for vertical alignment with the help of plumb bob, for
right angle and for diagonal dimension of room with the help of tape. Level strip of
gypsum shall be made through full height of wall and shall be checked for right angles.
 Edges should be very fine and straight and should be finished with fixing of angle beed
(as per boq) at the junction.
 Gypsum plaster thickness shall be restricted to 12-15mm for walls and if because of
undulations the final thickness is expected to be more than 15, back coat is recommended
before applying gypsum plaster.
 Back coat of 6 to 10mm thick (cement sand mortar) shall be applied on brickwork or
RCC. Curing of back coat shall be done before starting gypsum work.
 Back coat shall be in rich 1:4 cement mortar.
 6’’ band must be left at window sill level, door junctions & skirting levels. this band is
finished after window sill is fixed.
 Setting time of gypsum is 12 minutes to 30 minutes therefore the mix should be used
within this time.

2: Application of Bonding agent

 Open and stir the content before using it as it is ready to use material
 Application need to be done with 4’’ thick brush.
 After application allow it ti dry for at least 24hrs before gypsum plastering work.
 It will be applies on both RCC and block work face on location prescribed in finishing
details.
 Gypsum work to be completed within 10days of application of bonding agent.
3: During plastering with machine.
 Gypsum required for plaster work shall preferable be mixed in ratio of 1:1.5 ie
water:gypsum, by using manual puddle mixer it must be ensured that mix is
homogeneous and workable consistency.
 Bonding agent shall be applied on the surface to receive plaster.
 Proper checking and supervision to be done for plumb, line, right angle, measurement of
openings before application of plaster.
 The mixed material is added to the machine and sprayed to the wall directly after which
finishing is to be done.
 Electrical switch boxed shall be perfectly in line with plaster.
 No remixing with water after initial set would be permitted.

(B) For putty on ceiling

1: Surface preparation
 Clean loose particles, dirt, grease and traces of foreign material from the surface, if
necessary, by using sand paper or by chipping.
 For loose plaster areas, remove the defective material and re-plaster the area.
 For ceiling/wa;;, which are not even re-plaster it with rich plaster to make them even.
 Fill up any cracks in base plaster by using par crack fill.

2: Mixing
 Take 10-12 liters of portable water per 40kg bag in a clean bucket. Add the required
quantity of Buildon wall putty. Stir continuously y using an electric mixer or by hand to
obtain a homogeneous lump-free paste.
 Allow the resultant paste to stand for about 10 minutes for the additives to dissolve.
Remix again for about 2 minutes, Use the mix within 60 minutes.

3: Application
 Dampen the surface to be plastered with clean water. Allow excess water to drain off.
 Using a steel trowel/blade, apply the above mix to a thickness of about 1mm. Level and
smoothen the surface.
 Apply the second coat after the first coat has fully dried and set.
 The thickness of each coat should not exceed 1mm and total plaster thickness should not
exceed 2mm.
 Smoothen with a steel trowel. Sand paper if so desired with 600no sand paper.
