 Topic: Asking and Giving Opinions – Agreeing and Disagreeing

 Basic Competence:
4.2 Menyusun teks interaksi transaksional, lisan dan tulis, pendek dan
sederhana, yang melibatkan tindakan memberi dan meminta
informasi terkait pendapat dan pikiran, dengan memperhatikan
fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan yang benar dan
sesuai konteks

 Learning Content: Transactional Text

 Learning Objectives:
At the end of the lesson,
1. Students are able to identify not only the expression of asking and giving
opinion but also agreeing and disagreeing.
2. Students are able to identify not only the social function and language
features of asking and giving opinion but also agreeing and disagreeing.
3. Students are able to express not only the idea of asking and giving opinion
but also agreeing and disagreeing.
 Learning Procedure:
1. Greeting the students
Greet them and ask their feeling/ condition on that day then check the
attendance list.

2. Start with a pre-activity


Show some videos from internet (streaming) about asking and giving
opinions with agreeing and diasagreeing expressions in daily life then
give explanation of the the materials.

3. Go to the main activities


 Divide the students into pairs then show them an example of online
video about expressing opinions with agreeing and disagreeing.
 Give them provided links of internet video (streaming) then assign
them to play, to analyze, and to discuss the conversations relate the
materials.
 Ask the representatives to share the results of their discussion in
front of class.
 Ask students to make two dialogues each pair about expressing
opinions with agreeing and disagreeing then submit their work.

4. Closing
Give conclusion and feedback of the learning activities including the
objectives.

1. Expressing opinions about car

Tom : Well, what do you think of my car?


Dave : Well, personally, It looks comfortable. By the way, is it an expensive American car?
Tom : No, it’s a cheap small Japanese car.
Dave : How many people can it take?
Tom : There’s room for five people.
Dave : Has it got brakes?
Tom : Yes, there’re very good. The engine’s in the front, and there’s a big boot in the back.
Dave : It’s looks well made.
Tom : Would you like to come for drive?
Dave : OK. Drive carefully, won’t you. There’s a lot of traffic today.

2. Expressing opinions about issues of banning smartphone in the school

Dinda : Have you heard about our school’s plan to ban smartphones in the school?
Naira : Yeah
Dinda : What do you think about it?
Naira : From my point of view, that’s fair enough.
Dinda : Why do you think so?
Naira : You see… smartphones have caused so much trouble in our class. Remember
yesterday’s history class? Our teacher got very angry because was interrupt by smartphone
ringing many times. This may happen again and again.
Dinda : Well... I see your point.
Naira : Another thing is smartphones have caused a kind of foolish competition.
Dinda : What do you mean?
Naira : You know... everyone seems to compete to have the latest model.
Dinda : Yes, I feel that too.
Naira : So it’s a good idea if the school doesn’t allow students to use their smartphone in
the school.
3. Expressing opinions about activities

Greg : So, it’s agreed, we will go to the cinema and then we will eat at the Chineese
restaurant next door?

Hans : That sounds good to me! Lauren, you are very quiet today, what’s wrong?

Lauren : Well, personally I would rather go skating. But nobody asked my opinion.

Greg : You should have said! We can do that as well if you want?

Hans : Yeah, we could go skating, then go to the cinema and then go to the Chineese
restaurant. How does that sound?

Lauren : That sounds perfect!
