LESSON PLAN

Subject: 21st Century Literature


Grade and Section: Grade 11- Bloodstone
Date: September 20, 2019
Time: 9:00 – 10:00

CONTENT STANDARD: The learner will be able to understand and appreciate literary texts in
various genres across national literature and cultures.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learner will be able to demonstrate understanding and


appreciation of 21st century literature of the world through a written
close analysis and critical interpretation of a literary text in terms of form and
theme, with a description of its context derived from research

I OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the Grade 11 students are expected to:
a. identify representative texts and authors from Asia, North America, Europe, Latin
America, and Africa EN12Lit-IIa-22;
b. present a story analysis; and
c. apply the values learned from the story to real life situations.

II SUBJECT MATTER:
Topic: Arabian Literature: “One Thousand and One Nights: Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves”
References: GradeSaver, SlideShare, and YouTube
Values Integrated: “The value of Loyalty” and “The consequences of being Greedy”
Teaching Strategies: Interactive Discussion, Inquiry-based Instruction, Collaborative
Learning, 555 Method, and Story Pyramid
Materials: Laptop, PPT, Marker. Cartolina, Projector, Flyers

III PROCEDURE:

PREPARATION
 Prayer
 Checking of Attendance
 Classroom Cleanliness

MOTIVATION
 The teacher (dressed as a flight attendant) will let the students find their designated
seats for their flight. Then the teacher will asked the students to get the flyer placed
at the back of each seats.

Guide Questions:
o What did you find in the flyer and leaflets?
o Based from the pictures in the flyers, where do you think our destination for
today be? Why do you think so?

 When the students (a.k.a passengers) got the correct answer, then the teacher
(a.k.a flight attendant) will welcome them to the special literary Flight G11Bloostone-
2019 bound to Saudi Arabia.

ACTIVITY
Quick Speak!

 The teacher will present a short introduction about the Arabian Literature.

Guide Questions:
1. What you are going to do if you have discovered a cave full of
treasure?
2. What will you feel if someone wants to kill you because of those
treasure? How you are going to address it?

 The teacher will asked the students to be in their designated groups.


 Each group will be given a card which contains a task to be completed at the
end of the video presentation.
 Finally, the teacher will present a video clip about the story of “Ali Baba and
the Forty Thieves” from one of the famous Arabian literary pieces ‘One
Thousand and One Nights’

ANALYSIS
555 method (5 fingers, in less than 5 words, in less than 5 minutes)

 Based from the activity, each group will be tasked to present the analysis of
the story using the 555 method.
 The method has 5 parts. (Thumb: Title Impression, Forefinger: Admired
Character/s, Middle Finger: Captivating Plot, Ring Finger: Central Theme,
Pinky: Author’s Message)

ABSTRACTION
 The teacher will ask the students about the significance of the story.
o What is the morale of the story?
o As a Filipino, how will you use what you have learned from the story to your
life?
o If you were Ali Baba, what reward will you give to Morgiana for saving your
life?Why?
o What can you say to the author after reading his story?

APPLICATION:
Hashtag
Directions: The students will take the role of Morgiana by elaborating the
hashtags to real life situations.

IV EVALUATION
Directions: Using a Story Pyramid remember the key points in the story to
summarize what you know.

1. Top line: one word for the main character


2. Second line: two words to describe the main character
3. Third line: three words to describe the setting
4. Fourth line: four words that state the main problem/conflict
5. Fifth line: five words to describe the first main event in the story
6. Sixth line: six words to describe the second main event in the story
7. Seventh line: seven words to describe the third main event in the story
8. Eighth line: eight words that state the solution/resolution

V ASSIGNMENT:
Riddle Time!
 The students will be tasked to unveil a riddle of the next course of destination of
flight G11Bloodstone-2019

“If you like to travel around the world


I am known to be the third largest continent
Lying for the most part between the Arctic Circle and the Tropic of cancer
On which continent would you be?”
