DOUBTS I USUALLY GET….
-I HAVE to give Step 1 in Third Minor ? NO, it’s a completely individual
choice, it’s never too late. ( Most of us gave Step 1 after internship)
-I can’t give exam in internship ? You can(if you can manage it well with
internship, it’ll be difficult though with residents out for your blood)
- Should I join classes or self study? I had joined for step 1 and it was a
waste , majority think self study is enough.
- I have a huge gap after my MBBS will that affect my scores? Gaps do
not matter if you study the materials well enough
- Is Uworld enough? absolutely, but I have written down other
supplementary sources too later on.
- Should I give USMLE or NEET? We can only help you make an informed
decision, we can’t decide for you nor can we make predictions.
- How much is the cost over-all?

 Solve Uworld as many times as possible
Note:
 Study however you want (subject-wise vs topic-wise vs. system-
wise)
 You can do uworld along with first read or later after first
completion
 NBME or UWSA is highly recommended. It gives you a good
idea of what you’re going to face in the real exam and where you
stand in general. BUT IT IS NOT A PRECISE PREDICTOR OF
YOUR SCORE !!
Regarding NBMEs, UWSA…
Don’t study blindly. Once you finish all subjects
once, start planning your nbmes or uwsas.
Give enough practice tests!
 Explanations are on various online forums.
Just type question on google and search.
 Do not repeat a form. Give last one at least 3
days away from the exam, but not the day
before.
Highly recommend buying the uwsa and nbme
forms - you get answers now !
NBMEs cost around $50 each, USWA each form
costs around $35

Tips before the exam:
1. Plan your time frame well and STICK to It
2. Make sure to finish AT LEAST one full reading of FIRST
AID/MTB/KAPLAN
3. Start Uworld along with/ after the notes.
4. Give at least 2-3 NBMEs or USWAs ONLINE.
5. DO NOT solve a mock/ study hard on the last day
6. DO NOT VISIT THOSE SILLY FORUMS !!! EXCEPT
FOR INSPIRATION
7. DO NOT compare your time frame with your peers.
Tailor your own as per your convenience.
8. Sleep (well) before the exam. Carry whatever keeps you
awake! (Beware Caffeine is a diuretic. Avoid heavy
meals/get at least 6 hours of sleep/be comfortable)
Tips during the exam:
 HIGHLIGHT as you read(AVOID blind
reading)
 FLAG the question for later - AVOID re-
reading the question after answering
 AVOID mulling over options after coming to
one option (Don’t try to find the right in other
options try to find the wrong in your selected
option)
 STRIKEOUT all other ‘wrong’ answers.
(Avoids missing out an option) ALL THIS WILL COME
 “Fed up” and looking around? FROM PRACTICE !!!
 AVOID Wasting Time PRACTICE PRACTICE
 Do not use over smart guessing PRACTICE
Tips during the exam:
 Plan your breaks
 Try finishing the first 2-3 blocks together.
 Then take a break after each block.
 Please use the restroom during each break !!
What you may not know
about Steps
 Experimental Questions. No marks assigned to
these. Building their bank.
 Every question has enough info to answer
it without looking at the options
 Look out for distractors
 Score depends not just on mean, but variance
as well. Narrower your subject performance,
higher your score.
USMLE is currently discussing to remove the
numeric scoring system and just have a pass or
fail score. I don’t think people should panic. Still
in early stage, may not even come through
because there is a lot of opposition.
It wont increase competition from AMG ( their
match rate is 99% anyways). Maybe (slight
chance) it may affect the quality of programs
IMGs match into but I dont see it decreasing the
match rate of IMGs.
It helps to know that TNMC is a reputed college
worldwide.

and ecfmg.org for any delays in results
 CS scheduling page on ecfmg.org will let you
get notifications everytime your preferred dates
open up(AT ANY TIME OF THE DAY OR

main cities not available check places on the
outskirts which can be easily reached by
Uber/Lyft
Importance of step 3
 Neutral, competitive fellowship, non
competitive fellowship: think carefulling before
planning to take it
 In general a score above the average(228) is
perfect, higher the better
 More interviews in general
 Last selection criteria- objective

3. Words like “ really wanted an invitation from this
program”, “I am here in this city right now”, “ XYZ

snow, instead take programs in the south
 4. Find SOMEONE or ask your friends to FIND
SOMEONE who can help you with accommodation.
Remember, it saves a lot of money.
 Carry your passport everywhere. Carry minimum
cash. Use cards instead.
 Travel light, but always be equipped with adequate
winter wear. Always check forecast and possible

antisocial and rude
 Start with ice breakers- Weather, sports, food
 Don’t tell the interviewers you want to come back home- you are

people applying to the competitive specialities ( radio/
ortho/dermat/opthal surg ) want these

 You apply for both in the same match cycle
 DIAGNOSTIC VS INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY
 You are essentially applying to two specialities in the same year.
Making 2 profiles
 letters- NEED 2 Radio and 1 IM atleast
 High scores ( 250s minimum)
