is defined using a specific gauge to ensure the specified
play between intermediate gears (2) and camshaft gear.

Engine Flywheel Inspection

1. Flywheel sensor seat

2. Inspection window

The flywheel position for the

various settings can be observed
through the inspection window

M103
Engine Flywheel Inspection

DETAIL OF PUNCH MARKS ON ENGINE FLYWHEEL FOR PISTON POSITIONS

A. Hole on flywheel with one reference mark, corresponding to the TDC of pistons 3—4
B. Hole on flywheel with one reference mark, corresponding to the TDC of pistons 1—6
C. Hole on flywheel with one reference mark, corresponding to the TDC of pistons 2—5
D. Hole on flywheel with two reference marks, position corresponding to 54°.

M103
Crankshaft Timing Procedure

Position the crankshaft with the pistons 1 at the top dead

centre (T.D.C.) on compression stroke.
This situation occurs when the hole (B) with single notch
on the engine flywheel is visible and No.6 valves rocking.
Gear Play Adjustment

Use a specific gauge (1) to establish the position of the

connecting rod (3) and tighten the screw (2)

M107
Camshaft Assembly Procedure

Fit the camshaft in the direction shown by the arrow

(SIGHT From the front)

M107
Camshaft Timing Procedure
1) Fit a magnetic base DTI with the rod
on the roller of the exhaust valve
rocker arm of cylinder No. 3 and pre
load it by 6mm.
2) Rotate the crankshaft in the opposite
direction to normal rotation (i.e.
clockwise), until the pointer of the DTI
stops falling.
3) Zero the DTI.
4) Rotate the engine drive shaft in the
normal operating direction (i.e. anti-
clockwise), until the DTI gives a
reading of 4.70 mm

M108
The camshaft is timed if at the cam lift of
A 4.70 mm there are the following
conditions:

1) The hole marked with the TWO

notches (A) can be seen through the
inspection window

2) The tool 99360612 (B) fits freely

through the flywheel sensor seat into
the hole in the flywheel
