Initial Research Plan Worksheet

Direction: This is an individual work output and the answers to complete the statement guides
below can be done in a separate bond paper to be submitted within the week before next meeting

1. The title of the research study I want to work on The Impact of Modular method as an

Approach to Learning in Teaching Science 8

2. The main research problem statement is to determine the impact of modular method as an

approach to learning in teaching Science 8 on the performance of the Grade 8 students

at Cabiao National High School, during the academic year 2019-2020.

3. My research questions are the following:

1. What is the extent of the impact of the use of modular method in teaching Science 8 in

terms of:

1.1 Objectives,

1.2 Presentation

1.3 Process,

1.4 Enhancement

1.5 Understanding,

1.6 Assessment

2. What is the performance level of the respondents in Science 8 in terms of the K- 12

rating assessment such as:

2.1 knowledge,

2.2 process or skill,

2.3 understanding, and

2.4 product
3. Is there a significant relationship between the extent of the effectiveness of the use of

modular method to learning in teaching Science 8 and the performance of the respondents?

4. My justification for investigating this research problem (why it is important to study) is

as follows:

It will help to design and facilitate better motivation to all the teachers within their

jurisdiction to adopt and implement the modular approach inasmuch as it is a prescribed

strategy by the Dep. Ed. This will also give them insight on how effective this approach is.

Likewise, this will motivate them to lobby in the Division to secure the necessary

requirements, instructional materials needed in the module in any discipline.

To all the teachers in various disciplines, this will encourage them to master if not

specialize in the use of this teaching approach. If the K-12 curriculum motivates teachers to act

as facilitators, the use of modular approach is the best strategy, thus the results of this study will

give them insight on the beauty of adopting this sort of teaching strategy.

To the students, this will help them understand better the importance of this teaching

approach, since this will require their freedom to perform the task, starting from the activity, its

process, to the implementation by using their understanding and making their own interpretation

as part of their ultimate performance. This will also help them develop the encouragement,

confidence, self-reliance, and creativity including productivity and competitiveness.

To the readers, this will aid them to become aware of the existing modular method being

used in teaching Science 8.This may also contribute eventually on improving teaching and

learning activities to meet the ultimate goal of brilliance in instruction and education.
5. The following are the key terms in the problem or question that are not clear and thus need

to be defined:

Here are the conceptual definitions of these terms:

Modular teaching. It is concerned for each student as an individual with his own special aptitude

and interest, goal of helping each student to think for himself and allowing the individuality to

each learner. The emphasis must be on the one-one students with unique abilities, aspiration and

influencing experiences and, again to provide quality education, more modern ways students

enjoy periods in which they pursue their interests and satisfy their curiosities (Manlove and

David, 1985).

Enhancement. It refers to the application of familiar skills in the conduct of the given

lesson. It encourages students to perform similar task using their own creativity ,requires

students to focus on new skills or ideas to integrate/ incorporate in the new task and it introduces

“thought provoking” idea to develop a more creative mind.

Evaluation. It means providing an explicit application task and providing questions to

determine the rate of accomplishment. It also presents specific form of assessing the performance

of the students and it requires restructuring task which involve discovery of an idea or pattern.

Knowledge. It means presenting specifics such as terminologies and facts, instructs

students the ways and means of dealing with specifics of details of the task or activity, it helps

the students identify and generalize structure understand. It is given a maximum weight of 15

percentile for the accomplishment of the activity in a particular subject or discipline.

6. I intend to use a hypothesis to investigate this question: Yes ___/__ No _______

If yes, my hypothesis is , Is there a significant relationship between the extent of the

effectiveness of the use of modular method to learning in teaching Science 8 and the

performance of the respondents?

7. My intended sample consists of (state who and how many) Grade 8 – Special Science

classes and 3rd bracket Grade 8- approximately 200 students- purposive sampling

8. The study is a descriptive research. This describes, explains and interprets conditions of the

present status of the respondents regarding the problem of the study. This simply asked question

“what exists?’ The purpose of a descriptive research is to examine a phenomenon that is

occurring at a specific place(s) and time. Furthermore, accordingly descriptive research is

concerned with conditions, practices, structures, differences or relationships that exist, opinions

held processes that are going on or trends that are evident. the researcher will adopted this

descriptive research design to be able to find out from the respondents regarding the impact of

the use of modular approach by their teachers in teaching Science 8 on their performance in the

same subject.

9. A brief summary of the data collection procedure (what I intend to do, when, where, and

how) is as follows:

The respondents of the study are the 8 sections of the Grade 8 students who study at

Cabiao National High School , Cabiao , Nueva Ecija.

The researcher will custom the special classes and 3rd bracket of Grade 8 students who

enrolled in the school. Purposive sampling is used by the researcher. It is however purposive,

since the intention of the researcher was to find out the impact of modular method in teaching

Science 8 on the performance of the above mentioned respondents .


The researcher identified the locale and the respondents she needs. A letter seeking

permission to conduct the study will be forwarded to the School Principal or School Head. Soon

after the release of the permission, the researcher will administered and retrieved the

questionnaire.

Instrumentation

The researcher will accept the works of Dick and Reiser (1993)regarding the evaluation

of teaching instruments and approaches entitled Planning Effective Instruction or PEI.

Incidentally, the instrument will covered the indicators of the specific problem cited in this study

such as objective, presentation, knowledge, process, understanding, enhancement and

assessment. The researcher modified the measurement specifically on the adjectival rating that

suited to measure the indicators of the present study.

Administration of the Questionnaire

Right after the permission from the School Principal and or School Head will be

approved; the questionnaire is personally administered and retrieved from the anticipated

respondents. Then, the responses will tally, score, analyze and interpret. The responses,

however, will be treated as a whole with all confidentiality. Finally, the scores will be

subjected to statistical treatment.
